lemon rule ..... ?
hey,
in reference to my other thread about my tranny having to be replaced for the 2nd time, i want to know how the lemon rule works. Any input would be great.
here are my specs:
2000 acura tl
bought the car from a private seller in 2001 with 18k miles
replaced tranny at 49k miles before warranty was over (march 2004)
currently 61k miles and tranny is being replaced (will be running on new 3rd tranny starting may 2005)
would the lemon rule apply? what would i have to do? who would i have to talk to??
thanx,
hiren

depending on your state law its doubtfull you qualify yet. most require more than that and more frequently. check your state law on that

Just visiting from 3G. I had my Infiniti FX bought back under the lemon law. Most states require the repairs (and usually failures) to occur within the first two years of ownership. The lemon law almost always applies to only the original owner of the car and must be within a certain number of miles. 3-4 repair attempts on the same problem and the problem must still be occuring after that time. Generally you must give the manufacturer (in this case American Honda/Acura) written notice that you are going to pursue lemon law if they do not fix it.
The other option for many states is if your car has been out of service for xxx number of days (generally 30 days). In Michigan for example your car must be out of service for 30 days within the first two years for repairs then it qualifies under the lemon law.
It is of course, slightly more complicated than this, but those are the basic requirements.
In your case, I don't think there is even a remote possibility of a repurchase - mainly because of the age of the car.
Good luck and sorry to hear about the problems.

That is the first writeup I did about the lemon law for people on the forums here to use as a simple guide. There was a much more detailed one posted somewhere, I would have to look it up if you want it.
