LED fog light not working. WHY?
LED fog light not working. WHY?
i just installed led fog lights and led front turn signals. i put a resistor on for each of the turn signals and they work just fine.
well i went to put in the fog light led bulbs and the driver side wont light up.
i took the same bulb and put it in the passenger side and it works. i know that the driver side socket where the bulb plugs into is good because i just returned a set that i didnt like the color on but it was the halogen type so i think it has something to do with the leds low power throwing it off.
do i need a resistor on each fog light too? its just im not sure about that either because like i said the passenger one works without a resistor. please help!

The resistor is only needed at the Turn Signals to avoid rapid flashing.. If you are installing on the Fogs there is no need for resistors unless you have some faulty wiring.
Check your Voltage with a Volt-e-Meter you must have something off in that Fog wiring, Remember that a LED wont light up if it isn't between its voltage threshold..
For 12v LED that's usually between 11.2v and 13.2v

I know halogen bulbs don't require the positive and negative to be in the proper area, so you might want to check how the LED bulb works if you made the other connections touch.
I know when I had HID fogs I had to switch the positive and negative connections to make them work due to the HIDs wiring not matching up with the OEM harness

thing is there is only one way to plug this bulb in. its a 90 degree 9006 bulb as all you 2nd gen owners already know. but for shits and gigs i turned it around to try and fit it in and still nothing. i have the 2003 base model if that matters. i guess i will check with a volt meter when i get a hold of one…but i was just looking online and i see people putting resistors on fogs??? but idk. i guess the volt meter will tell me everything. anything else you guys can think of let me know.

with the Volt-e-Meter you can check if the polarity is reversed...
Resistors are made to stabilize voltage, In the turn signals they work because when the Signal is flickering there is a drop and rise in voltage and the LED goes "Loco" with rapid flashing..
With the Resistor in place the Voltage is stabilized so its like a switch 12v to 0v to 12v.
In the fog there is no need because its always a constant 12v (Unless something goes bad) that's why the LED works fine on one side without them.

i had remembered that the fogs came with a wire extension that i guess is supposed to be used for other type bulbs but it fit the 9006 led bulb and i guess that extension wire made better contact with the stock harness because now it worked. so idk why all over the internet people are putting resistors on their fogs. i guess unless they have a great computer system that even lets them know of a burnt out fog light! but anyway. thanks guys for the quick responses! next mod is…..the fog light mod! i truly love this car even if its 11 years old!
