Question lease rates

I currently drive a Prelude SH and am looking to lease a Type S starting in the fall.

Can you please let me know what I can expect my monthly lease payment to be over a 36-month term (15k miles/year)? I'm assuming $3,500 - $4,000 due at lease inception -- is that accurate?

Any indications I can get from current Type S owners before I walk into the dealership would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any information.

Rick Case in South Florida is advertising regular TL for something like $299 per month with I think near $5,000 down.

Usually each $1,000 of downpayment costs about $30 dollars of a monthly payment. So if I were to put only $1,000 down, then the monthly payments would be around $420. Sounds a bit steep to me.

I have a spreadsheet you can buy for the outrageous sum of $5.00 that lets you input all the variables and see how they come out. It offers a lot more detail that what's available on the Internet.

I don't have my figures handy, but Acura is offering something like 6.4-6.9% lease rates on 36-48 month leases, with residuals between 58-60%.

BE VERY CAREFUL and DO NOT focus on money down or monthly payments, dealers can and will play all sorts of games if you go that route.

I know leasing and all the tricks quite well, so ask away!

This is the lease deal I worked out for my TLS:

15,000 miles per year
42 months
59% residual
$2,500 in Cap Cost Reduction (money down)
$685 in dealer fees (TTL)
Money Factor of .0028 (6.72%)

And my monthly payment is $351

If you don't recognize and know what all these figures mean - you need to ask a LOT more questions before leasing :-)

Advertised here today:
$379 mo.
48 mos.
12k mi./yr.
$2960 due at lease inception
taxes, title and tags extra

I'm no lease expert, but this doesn't sound particularly good to me.

Hi,

Does that monthly payment include sales tax, what was the Cap Cost and is that navi or no navi?

Includes CT tax, w/o nav.

Also remember to completely ignore anything and everything you see advertised in a newspaper - complete waste of time.

The terms and deals you see in the paper are often based on MSRP with lots of tricks to make the payments seem low, when in fact you're being ripped off. For instance - what does "$2,500 down" really mean? $2,500 which comes off the price of the car, or $2,500 that the dealer puts into his pocket as fees and charges - which you end up paying big time for because the money factor and interest is applied to your down payment every month??

If you don't walk into a dealership armed with all of the info you need, you're going to be screwed. If the figures on the Lease Disclosure sheet don't exactly match the figures you calculate, don't sign anything.

Zack
Black TLS Navi
Leased for 36 mos.
Purchase price: $31,700
No security deposit
Residual is $20900

I pd. $1500 down and my payments are $527 (incl. taxes) for 35 more mos. My money factor was .34 from AMHFC. Have perfect credit but only 2.5 yrs on the bureau so you should be able to do much better if you have a good history. .30 is the average for 700+ FICO. AMHFC does not have tiered rates though.

It is a **VERY VERY BAD** idea to put more than $1500 down on a lease because if the car gets totalled tommorow then all your downpayment is KAPUT! It will NOT be refunded to you via gap insurance.

The above is quite a good deal for me because of the inflated residual. Since I do not intend to buy the car at the end it works in my favor. If you plan to do a lease buyout at the end then look for a residual in the $18K-19K range
