Latest update on 2nd nav disc

So I was out of town on a weekend trip to Portland Oregon which is about 130 miles or so from where I'm at. I have nav disc version 2.05 and it appears that alot of older places weren't available such as Costco. This leaves me to question how old the data on my disc really is. I guess it's time to jump the gun and cough up $185 and get an updated disc. I think that's pretty spendy to buy a disc that's only going to be superceded every year or so. Anybody have a newer than 2.05 disc laying around that they don't mind selling for cheap? Is it possible to make "test copies" of the newer dual layer disc?

The good news, the trip to Portland pulled well over 260 miles on a little over half a tank. I'm at 368 miles on the tank right now and the E light hasn't lit up yet. 30 MPG here I come.

i know what you mean. I use to think that the update was not really needed until major changes..but taking a trip down to southern california two weeks ago, damn...a lot of locations are missing and the navi didn't seem to recognize alot of places i was going to..

Did your DVD player ever have a newer version disc installed? If so, I think the system might have trouble reverting to a older disc. (IIRC, with version 2.11, the discs went from single layer to dual layer DVDs.)

So the system needs an update before being able to read dual layer DVD's? I didn't know that these disc were installed, I thought they were just read direct from the drive.

I'm not exactly sure how the discs are employed but I'm pretty sure that I read of potential problems if you try to revert back to an earlier disc. It might be some sort of firmware upgrade that is handled automatically when a newer disc is installed in the player. This only becomes a problem if you then try to install an older disc. (This sometimes happens when people buy a used nav DVD player and disc separately.)

But you will have no problem going from a single layer (or any older version) disc to a newer version.

OK, I found this discussion about the navigation system firmware upgrades:

https://acurazine.com/forums/ramblings-12/microsoft-guru-119477/

A nav disc reading problem is described along with steps to force the system to revert to an earlier firmware version.

test copies- you crack me up Chanrith

Its possible to burn backups with a dual layer something compu geekmo tech person can do according to gen3

My car went 5+ years on the original disc- the former owner didnt even know you COULD update
My 20 year old house/street/neighborhood wasnt even on the map!

Got the 2004 release used on here, and its better but not perfect for certain areas the newer disc covers. So its another upgrade for me when the newest release comes out in the fall normally
and a deal for the next guy~~
Wasnt a prob still I started to enjoy trips in the TL- then a new disc became worthwhile
