Latest mod for the TL..

What's up guys? I'm working on my latest mod for the TL. I'm not completely done, but here are some teaser pics of what's going on. Can someone guess what I'm doing?

^ yeah, what's the size of the screen, and how much did ya pay for it? That's always been what's keepin' me from doing a carputer.

Screen size i'm using is 7"..You can probably fit an 8" though. Cost wise...I don't know yet..i'll let you know when it's done.

And i'm going to be using RoadRunner as my front end.

I like it! Few questions though...

Where do you live? If you live in an area where it gets really warm, you need good cooling for the PC, and if it gets really cold, you want to be careful of frost or moisture.

Do you go into the trunk every time you get into the car to turn it on; or did you install a button in the front?

Thanks!

I live in Florida, and i've had no problems so far with the heat.

and for the turning on and off, I installed what's called a "shutdown controller" it senses the 12v off of the acc of the car. When it's on, it pulses the motherboard and tells it to turn on and off.

very nice install! I would be careful placing the cpu right next to your subs like that- the magnets might be a little close to your HD. And thats the same computer i'm on at work right now

What did the screen run you?

I would also be worried about the vibration of the sub messing with the reader heads on the HDD.

The screen was like 200..

Everything in total..probably like 400.

Labor on this would probably be expensive seeing as how long it takes!

I have to say that you did a VERY good job man. Keep it up. I don't have the skill nor balls do to things like that. As you have read above...hide those wires in the trunk. It would so much cleaner then
Once again, pimp upgrade man!!!

Very nice install. You might want to just post everything it took to install it; I, for one and interested and it would prevent a bunch of questions on it...

Also, have/can you integrate the steering wheel controls to it?

u can integrate pretty much anything in the car that you like.. using the relay controller/software for the car comp....

also.. mounting it to the sub is a bad idea since the hdd will develop bad clusters eventually.. maybe not now.... as well as loosen the components slowly....

most of u here need not worrY, this is a very fun/exciting project.... just get urself a touchscreen.. and the carcomputer will depend on specs/size... if ur low on $$$, build a regular size desktop, super cheap nowadays.... the rest is the same as connecting a computer together.... just make sure u have regulated 12v going to the carcomputer's powersupply.....

after u did this....everything else is the software and trust me.. this is where the fun part kicks in.... if u have video out/dual screen video cards, even better... more fun! :P ...

and like the author of this tread mentioned, check out www.mp3car.com ..... the one and only site for all ur carcomp needs/questions.
