Killed a 91 Eclipse w/upgraded turbo!
yea i was driving around getting the smoke out of my car hahaha...so sunroof was open n ac was goin too. I see this 91 Eclipse racing a new F150 ahead on the highway. I'm like come on! leave that little pick up alone! So the light turns red n the pick up turns away. I line up next to him n we start to rev. His turbo shoots off and then light turns n we both floor it. I took the lead early on and we start flying faaaast as hell. Then his turbo kicked in he started gaining ground, so i downshifted so i could redline n shifted up. I started to pull more on him after i redlined 3rd and got to 4th. Then we hit 130 and the light up ahead was red so we both shut down and went our separate ways.
Haha that punk had a "Turbocharged.com" sticker across his trunk. Yea good way to represent man! go kill em pick ups!

the older dsm turbo were the faster ones, the newer turbo one aint $hit, 91 was the old body style like the plymoth laser, and those my friend would have handed your a$$ on a silver platter, perhaps it wasnt an upgraded turbo maybe just a bov, but even then i doubt a tl can beat it , maybe hang with it but nothing more...

Hey, it was a 91.. god knows how crap that engine is by now if that guy drives it like that all time.. maybe it hasn't had maintenance for years, etc .. there can be a billion reasons for it being slower.

First off, how would you know it had an upgraded turbo?? There are no visual signs or sounds which would identify this.
You were at the line revving and his turbo shoots off?? If that is the case then you should certainly have won; did he ever go back and recover this shot off turbo?? :p Seriously, unless it was an automatic he would not build any boost at the line just by revving the car. This would negate any potential to hear a turbo. Additionally, if it was an automatic you would not hear a BOV while running as the throttle remains open during the shifts.
Just FYI, the turbo is always on and does not need to kick-in. At lower RPMs it might be below its boost threshold but it is still 'On'. If it was an automatic or a manual then he didn't launch as the boost would be present immediately.
Based on you Avatar you have a TL-S which is a 5-Speed automatic. You mentioned that you both floored it when the light changed. So why or how on earth would you down shift an automatic which is already at WOT. The ECU won't do it (even with SS) and it is mind boggling as to why this would be wanted. You have it floored, with the revs climbing quickly, and wanted to go down a gear?? You want an up shift at this point. Plus, and most importantly, you started in 1st gear and then is not another gear to go down to unless Acura has added gear 0 to the TL-S.
Last point, you were doing 130 on a street with stop lights?? If the light changed as you were approaching the intersection, there is a good chance you wouldn't be stopped in time before the cross traffic started moving. Please keep those speeds on the interstate if you must.
