What the dealer should have said was the security programs between the 99-01's and the 02-03's are different, so the remotes are not interchangeable. However, you can do what I did and gut a 02-03 remote and stick the internals of a 99-02 remote inside. The buttons all line up, it just takes time to do it right.

what i want to know do they make a plastic key for our TLs like for the Benz, they are flat keys that you can keep in your wallet in case you get locked out??? now that i'll be interested in... i already had a few incidents with my car locking out on me.

I prefer the look of the 02-03 fob to the 99-01. Purely aesthetics (and I wanted to see if it could be done).

You could always get a normal key cut, and stick it in a card that then goes in your wallet (Caddy did that for the longest time). The only thing is, the key will get you in your car, but won't be able to start it unless you've disabled your immobilizer (ie, have an aftermarket alarm or something).

Go to your dealer and get a key without a chip. Dealer will cut it for you either at not cost or for a few bucks. Trim plastic fob from that key and carry flat metal part in your vallet.
That's what I have done. Cannot start the car, but can open the door and glove comp.

In California, any local AAA office will make a free plastic wallet copy of your key... of course you have to have a AAA membership.

lemme just say that i bought a remote on ebay and it didn't work.....it was cosmetically identical, and codes "supposedly checked out" with acura, i tried to program it, and it didn't work.....took it to acura, they said i can't use it because they don't know why....so i'd go and buy it from somewhere online (like that link on the 2nd or 3rd thread).....it's your best bet. lata

I was told by Acura, NYC that there are different codes for TL-P & TL-S. TL-S has seat memory FCC E4E / OMRON G8D & TL-P FCC begins with KOBUT...

I think I'll get one of these for now then upgrade to a remote start alarm w/window roll down/up...

I recently purchased a 2003 TL and it came with one Key and one Remote. I have been reading and looking around and I am likely going to purchase one on ebay. My primary question, however, is in regard to the Entry Remote. I realize that the codes have to match up on the back on the Remote. Mine are worn though. Is there another way to get this code, maybe on the car itself?

One the Remote:
FCC: E4E ...the next character is either a G or Q...and after that there isn't anything left
The other code below is G8D-44 ...after that there isnt anything either

I guess i'm hoping that this is enough to decipher the full string. Thanks!
