Key Question

I really hate the standard 2000 Acura Black Head Key. I want to replace it with a 2004+ key. Is this possible? They both have transponders, and the key cut design seems the same, can a 2004+ key start a 2000 3.2tl Navi?

It seems really easy, only a matter of reprogramming the transponder.

you can not program a 04 key into a 99-03 tl due to the chip inside
it will not recognize the chip in that key same goes for remotes
plus isnt a 04 key a laser cut key ?

How can you state it can't be done if you don't even know if the key is laser cut or not?

The 04+ key isn't laser cut, the pattern looks the same as the 99-03. The remotes are identical, but that's not a big deal for me whether it will work or not.

I, too, would like to know if an 04+ key would work for our TLs.

Someone in another thread did the remote by just taking it apart and switching the chipboard inside from the old remote (black) to the new 2002+ remote. It seems very likely. All the sites that i have seen say that the chips used in the different keys are the same so that it doesnt seem that it would be that difficult.

I looked at my brother's keys yesterday, and they looked pretty much the same. What's the big deal??

My key fob is either in the ignition (where I can't see it), in my pocket (where I can't see it) or I am using it at most a minute or two per day to get in and out of the car. Why replace it?

the same logic can be applied to the door sill strips and such

I'd still like to get a key like the Accords have now, with the remote built into the key head.
