Keep the Gas Prices Down!!
Well, I received this e-mail and I thought I would post it and see what everyone thinks about this.
*****************************************
This is important for all of us commuters.
Want gasoline prices to come down?
We need to take some intelligent, united action.
This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas. It
was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work. Please read it and join with us! By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $1.50 is super cheap. Me too! It is currently $1.97 for regular unleaded in my town. Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have ditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50- $1.75, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace....not sellers.
With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price
of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. How?
Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war.
Here's the idea:
For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL. If they
are not selling any gas, they will be declined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit.
But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do!! Now, don't whimp out on me at this point...keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is
to reach millions of people!! I am sending this note to about thirty people. If each of you send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)... and those 300 send it to at least
ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) ... and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers!
If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!! Again, all you
have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all.
(If you don't understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have to do
is send this to 10 people.... well, let's face it, you just aren't a
mathematician. But I am close to one... so trust me on this one.)
How long would all that take? If each of us sends this email out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!! I'll bet you didn't think
you and I had that much potential, did you! Acting together we can make a difference.
If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on.
PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $1.30 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN. THIS CAN REALLY WORK.

An email went out about that last year too. Apparently it was just another chain letter....

If enough people followed suit, this would only serve to hurt Exxon-Mobil, not drive gas prices down. Gas prices are high because OPEC is cutting production. If we don't buy from Exxon-Mobil we're going to have to buy from someone else... It all comes from the OPEC nations so it really doesn't matter WHO you buy from.

I agree, 95gt, I was thinking about the Acura MDX but I just couldn't see myself paying that much money for gas in the long run. Besides, who can resist the 260hp Type-S?

Fight the power!
(couldn't resist)
These "schemes" don't do anything. Let's face it: if the gas prices do hit $3/gallon, what'll I do? Oh I'll piss and moan and then I'll hand the guy my credit card and pay him $27 and fondly remember the good ole days when I paid him $18.
And, I'll be laughing my flipping butt off at the Ford Excursion next to me paying $60-$70 every week! Ha!

My math teacher got this email the other day so she thought it would be a good idea to put it on our math quiz. We are currently studying series and sequences, anyways I thought I would bring up this point, but i see tejenkins got to it ahead of me. This chain letter will never work because odds are that people are gonna get the letter more than once.

A few random points:
1) I heard on the radio today that if you adjust for inflation, gas is $1/gallon cheaper today than it was 20 years ago. So, instead of moaning about rising energy prices, try being thankful that they managed to stay so low for so long.
2) What is the problem with oil companies making a profit? It really bothers me the scrutiny that corporations get now for making profits. That's their job, but the public seems to have this idea of what is too much profit. Do you have any idea what the capital requirements are for an oil company? So they sqeeze out a profit every now and then - it's still a drop in the bucket compared to the billions of dollars they have invested to build the company over the years.
3) Also, nobody complained during most of the last 20 years when the oil companies were just scraping to stay alive - and MANY of them didn't make it. As long as oil is under $18/barrel - which it was throughout most of the '80's - the domestic oil companies cannot produce oil profitably. I lived through Houston in the '80's, and it wasn't pretty.
4) Everyone has probably heard about the problem in California - during the period when their population doubled (last 10 or 20 years, can't remember which), they constructed no new power plants. Well, there is a similar problem with oil refineries nationwide. Whenever someone wants to build a power plant or a refinery, the environmentalists have a fit. And now everyone wonders why we can't produce enough energy.
5) Even though I personally don't like SUV's (because they're butt-ugly), I don't think it's fair to blame them for all our problems. First of all, this is typical environmentalist propaganda. If you want an SUV, go for it, just don't gripe about it if your gas bill is high. I think the extra gas consumed by SUVs is minimal compared to the total amount of fuel consumed in this country - definitely not enough to pin all our current problems on.
Bottom line - the US is the most prosperous nation in the world. Considering this prosperity, combined with traditionally low fuel prices, it's no surprise that there are a lot of people out there that own vehicles, and many people own SUVs and luxuy vehicles that aren't exactly the most fuel efficient (let's face it, our TLs are not exactly the most economical cars out there either). Combine this fact with horrible energy policy for the last decade, and a previous administration that caved into every environmentalist demand, no matter how extreme or bizarre (example - they thought Kyoto was a good idea), and it's no surprise we have the problems we have today.
Don't worry, because this problem is temporary. This is a situation that our free market system will adapt to readily. As the price of oil and gasoline stays high, it will provide an incentive for more companies to invest in producing energy, which will ultimately increase the supply.

As far as people complaining about gas prices going up, I'm sure guys that drive BMW, MDX, Mercedes or even TL-S would piss and moan and put in their full tank of gas with no serious consequences but some people who are on a tight budget who barly make enough to make ends meet can't cope with such price hikes. It's not like they can stop buying it either. Basically this is like a tax hike for the poor. How many of you would like it if your tax doubled for the summer?

Ummmm, I think the high gas prices gives me a good reason to drive my TL-S........
You see my other vechile is a 99 Chevy Sub with a 42 gallon gas tank. At $3.00 dollars per gallon that aprox $126.00 per fill up.
Man, I don't even want to think about it.
Hmmm I wonder if the TL-S could pull my sea doo.
