K & N Mileage test update
Just another followup on my K & N mileage test, live from Denver, where I'm at a conference. Please note that I pushed the TL for the entire 1350 mile trip, running 80-85 mph in D5, with cruise control on. Total drive 19 hours.
Tank 1: 398 miles/13.8 gal-->28.8 mpg
Tank 2: 450 miles/14.7 gal-->30.6 mpg
Tank 3: 415 miles/14.1 gal-->29.4 mpg
I consider this "not bad" considering my VERY leaden foot. I'm sure, though I obviously can't prove this, that I could have seen some improvement if I'd kept to the speed limit. OK, maybe not, the speed limit on rural freeways in Colorado is 75 mph! If I'd had my brain on, I'd have brought my stock air filter to test mileage on the way back.
Some comments about the car for anyone considering a purchase: This is an excellent long-distance car...quiet as a vault even at 85 mph except for tire noise, best lumbar support I've used, drives as if on a rail on the freeway at speed--just not much need for adjustment.

OK. My previous threads, for trd....

There are other threads describing the relative lack of filtration with K & N filters....my feeling is that you can't have it both ways--either you get more air and less filtering, or vice versa. I am NOT an automotive engineer, so my opinion in this means precisely squat--I am just posting the type of testing an end-user can easily execute. Road Rage has an excellent thread on the issue, and Mr. Hyde has posted some valuable information regarding the issue, too lazy to search it right now, will post later. IIn any case, you should be aware of all the issues regarding filtering/air flow between replacement oil/cloth air filters (e.g. K & N) and foam filters (e.g. Comptech) before you buy.
As to which filter, Tatewaki...there's one that fits our TLs specifically. It's part # 33-2133. You can order it from most automotive parts stores, or online.
