Question K and N Filter

Does anyone know the part number for the filter for a 2002 TLS. I assume the CLS, and TLS are the same. Does the TL-P use the same filter. Thanks for any info.

do you get any performance gains from a filter?

Anything that improves engine breathing, whether on the intake or the exhaust side, will give performance improvements. The K&N is less restrictive than the OE filter, but more restrictive than the AEM or Injen CAI's, so Im sure it gives a little bit....3-5 hp I would guess. I did it about the same time as the header so it was hard to tell for me. I DO know that the combination header/intake change made a substantial difference! It also "growls" a bit more than the stock setup.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the part #! I think I'll order it tomorrow. From past experiences I believe the filter is worth a small power gain, plus it lasts forever (with cleaning and re-oiling).

O'Reilly had to order my filter....and it should cost around $44.99....wanted to "drop it in" last night but then realized there are screws to be undone....will get to it this weekend. I won't don't have any headers so may be able to decipher the performance gain issue better.

Lightbulb

I just dropped in a K&N for my TL-S and also noticed a slightly louder intake "growl" @ WOT. Performance gains at normal acceleration profiles are not evident, but @ WOT, the tach does redline a bit faster. I have detailed MPG records before the install, and will report back here with post-K&N MPG figures after a few tanks.

I noticed that too and thought maybe it was my imagination.

Anyone recently put in a Comptech drop in filter? I already did a search but just curious about any recent comments on the Comptech. Still debating between the K&N and Comptech.

I was debating the same thing, I did my search and based on that and my own experience of what I saw on the inside of my old paper K&N Cone filter on my last car, Im probably going to go with a Comptech Foam one.

Comptech foam filter is sounding better and better. How about Comptech foam filter plus RES?

Close your eyes and hold out both hands. Picture K&N in one hand and Comptech in the other. Pick which one feels best in your hand. Spent some time w/S2000 quys at the Dyno and they had every filter on the market in different cars and in the same car not a single one made any difference at all including the stock filter. They were all within a couple to 3 or 4 hp within each other starting out but none really made anything more hp w/different filters. Seems to me they spent tons of money and didn't seem to get diddly as a result. I bought K&N because I have past experience with them. 1982 5.0 Mustang when I traded it two cars ago the thing ran like a scalded dog and narry a problem as a result of the filter. I removed the resonator on the Mustang like I have in my TLS because I like the sound produced with the filter and the resonator gone. I Dyno'd my car as well with the S2000 guys but there was no TLS's to compare. S2000's and TLS's have about the same hp to the rear wheels. Ours comes on early theirs comes on later in the rpms.

Sorry I meant Torque comes on early w/TLS and later with S2000.
