Question K&N air filter

Finally received it in the mail. There wasn't any instructions on how to install it but it seems pretty simple. Only thing I have a question about is that is it suppose to be put in like:

A. --____--

or

B. _--------_

??

Depending if you have a Type-S or not if can be a different install. Mine is an S and it went in in about 20 seconds.

Unscrew the single screw between the air box and the fender and tilt up hinging on the engine side where the two tabs are. Take out the old one and put in the new one with the fins pointing down. Re-insert the tabs and run the screw back in and it's done.

It took longer to type this out than it did to put one in.

Can't you just put it in the same way as the OEM air filter? I replaced mine on my '99 and didn't have any issues. Is the Type-S that much different??

the shape of the OEM filter is double the thickness and is in some triangular shape so that's why i was a bit confused of which side is up on the k&n

Personally I think the "extra power" is just about negligible. If for any reason I put it in to cut down on having to buy more at the service interval. Just think of it, the factory type filter can run $18+ and lasts for, what, 10k miles? Where as the K&N only has to cleaned, not replaced, every 40k-60k miles and costs only about $35. It's warranted for a million miles so it'll darn well outlast the car.

I just dropped in a K&N monday. I do feel a but more smoothness in accelerating, but I'd hesitate to call in a performance boost. Kinda like how a new oil change can feel like it ther interval has gone to long, but multplied about 5 times.
My first post since getting the car in May letting the '95 GS-R go BTW.

one good thing to remember about filters - any filter you come across, air, oil etc...

The mesh that supports the filter element does just that, supports the filter element and should be located downstream of the airflow, backing up the filter element.

Know that and you will never need to question an installation orientation again!
