Just picked up my TL-S!
Traded in my 96 Maxima (5-speed MT) TL-S yesterday and thought I'd check in here with my buying experience. Considered Audi A4 and A6, BMW 330 and 525, Infiniti G35, VW Passat GLX, but, in the end, it all came down to the TL-S, mostly because it's a great value and a great drive.
To be honest, I was more impressed with the G35 performance (torque, RWD), but it would have cost $3K - $4K more than a comparable TL-S, the gas mileage is terrible, and the Infiniti dealership did not want to make a good deal and low-balled me on the trade-in offer. I also need more of a nice cruising vehicle for my LA freeway commute. Plus, my wife did not like the styling or interior (although, I thought it looks pretty sweet).
I am concerned about the tranny failures and the seat bubbling, but I trust that Honda has fixed this tranny problem in the more recently-built cars and I don't use seat heating in SoCal. The interior rattling is also a concern (I've been reading the forum posts here for a couple of weeks) but I'll have to wait and see if my specific vehicle is prone to that. My Maxima did not have any significant rattling, even after 6.5 years and 99,000 miles. I was sad to see the Maxima go, but, it was time to move on to something better...the TL-S
I am looking forward to participating on this MB.

Good luck!
With mods galore and driving the shi+ out of mine (33k in 16 months), mine has barely any rattles and none discernable with the radio on...
You'll be pleasantly surprised by the performance...I too looked at the G35 just recently and the torque was very nice, but again, keep driving-you'll be surprised!

Pauli, not to worry. Just went through all that myself! My '02 TLS was totalled, so I went shopping, and compared all the same vehicles except the VW's. Same experience with the Infiniti dealership, and the Acura guys weren't ready to let me buy anything but Acura. So, I just picked up my '03 TLS replacement.
This is the 4th Acura I've had. Knock on wood, no tranny problems. My '02, and the '03, both had sunroof chatter problems, which was easily fixed by a kit the dealership installed. Other than that, great car! Hope you enjoy yours!

Thanks for all of the encouragement everyone. I have 2 days and 150 miles on the car now and I could'nt be more thrilled with this car. The sound of the engine when the VTEC kicks in is incredible! I definitely never had anything like THAT on my old Maxima!

Yeah, I'm restraining myself so far. Kick it up into VTEC range every so often, but I haven't approached redline yet.

I have about 500 miles on my TL-S and love every minute of it.
Good luck!

You should be waiting for the full break-in period before you start VTECing all over town. Lay off that throttle Pauli and wait until you hit 600-1000 miles. Go read the manual.
Congrats on your ride, good choice. Good luck with it.
