Question Just to make myself sick........

How much crap do they have to pull out of the car to actually replace the transmission? I should be getting my car back the end of this week with my new tranny and now I find myself worried about other stuff that now will not work. I try to tell myself that they must be good at it by now but I am still curious how involved it is and how much stuff is actually taken apart to replace the tranny. (It must be pretty damn tedious is it takes a few days to do!!)

Its not that bad of a job, to R&R the trans shouldnt take the tech more then 3.5 hrs. Its fairly simple to do. Remove both front wheels, seperate the lower balljoints, pull the axles, torque converter bolts, starter, pull the air box, 6 tranny bolts, few connectors... gravy job...

If it should take no more than 3.5 hours then how come the dealer says like 1 to 2 days? Maybe they just want the money

I hear that!! I limped my car in last Thursday night. They said that the tranny would come in Tuesday(today) and that, depending on what time the tranny came in, I would get the car either Wednesday night or Thursday night.

Even though they probably take longer than they should, I'm glad it is a simple job for them........I'm just afraid I will get the car back and other stuff will not work!!!

But the money won't come from your packet unless the car is out of warranty.

When my tranny was replaced, the repair order showed 5.5 hours of labor.

Damn!! I only wish my install is that quick!! I called the dealer today (at noon) to see where it stands (tranny came in yesterday.) Well, they said that the guy doing the work on my car is finishing up another tranny on another car and should be done by the end of the day and that My car would be started tomorrow. I better have it back by Friday!!!!!

Im not sure what the book time is on removing/replacing the trans. As for the dealer stating 1-2 days, they have other cars in the shop that need to be repaired also. Keep in mind that these technicians have done enough of these trans to be able to do the job with there eyes closed. Replacing the tranny isn't that hard of a job.
As for book time i used to get 5.5hrs to do a timing belt on 90-93 honda accords. My best time was 37minutes to replace the T-belt/waterpump and belts. I would get paid 5.5 and customer would get charged 5.5 and i move to the next job. When you work on the same car everyday you learn shortcuts/tools required and do it blind folded.
As for pulling the trans.... the hardest part is swapping the trans on the trans jack, then lining up the trans to the block.
Just make sure when you pick up your car you bring the radio code with you. Since they disconnect your battery you'll need your code....
