Question Just got my AEM V2 CAI put in...

I just got it installed today. Is it just me, or does the intake replace a LOT of crap? Seems like a lot came out but very little went back in...

I haven't seen too many threads about the AEM V2, but this is what I gather from it:

When the car is at idle, it's significantly louder in general. There's a constant low humming sound, which I find slightly irritating. When I turn the A/C on, I hear a loud hissing sound that's audible if I have the driver side window open. I'm not so sure if that's normal, and it's pretty damn annoying.

In general, low RPM driving isn't much different from stock, but at high RPMs, the car roars. In general though, I don't really feel a difference in power, and the car seems more reluctant to downshift when I floor it.

Anyone else have the V2? What are your experiences/opinions? (esp. w/ the AC issue)

yes, an aftermarket intake will make your engine noticably louder. The hissing is normal. Watch out for puddles with that cold air.

I also have the AEM V2. I've had it on my car for about eight or nine months now. So far I love it. When Idling, the car does emit a slight hum, but to me, it's not that loud and doesn't bother me. The only time I hear it hiss is when I am barely pressing on the gas pedal. I haven't noticed it hissing when the AC is on since I generally don't have the window down with the AC on. Then of course it ROARS when under WOT, which makes the car at least sound like it has a pair. As far as hp gains, I'd have to say they're minimal, say 1-5 hp, and in the higher RPMs.

I wouldn't worry too much about puddles with your CAI. Small puddles should pose no threat for your car. Obviously, avoid deep puddles where the intake could possibly be submerged, which IMO you should avoid anyway in a TL.

I also just got the AEM V2, I have not yet installed and not sure of I will just because of the hydrolocking scenario I have been hearing about because this CAI doesn't have the bypass valve available for it. I think as far as improvement in horsepower I believe they all (just CAI's) gve just about the same increase. I wish it were more but it's not so....I guess I'll have to get a turbo next time. As far as the sound of the engine....I don't really care as long as it isn't that noticable inside the car while driving.

I have a Comptech Icebox, and the noise is almost the same as stock. great alternative if you want performance and stock sound.

dont worry about hydrolocking....ud have to be in a big ass puddle up to your knees, for it to suck in that much water....

I love my hissing sound!

Yup, don't worry about the puddles. It started thunderstorming right after I got the intake installed, and I had no problems driving through heavy rain and puddles. I actually didn't even think about hydrolock till I read the replies to my post!

No, actually it should have been for a V6 Accord, if you got the right one.
