Just got done with 6spd swap, a few questions

posting here because nobody in the CL side has done the swap yet (except one guy, but he's running custom harness)

I just got done with most of my swap today.

the car is running strong and pretty good.

only having some electrical issues

Original Car: 01 CL-S.

What i swapped out:
  • Complete engine bay wire harness, complete motor and transmission, including the subframe (i had a whole donor car).
  • Whole dash board harness, including top and bottom, with all the fuse boxes.
  • I also had to change the Driver side airbag, computer, the complete SRS harness because it was different.

The only thing left now is a few plugs underneath the driver side dash. (probably about 3-4)
I dont have any where to plug them.
I checked the donor car and it actually has a few extra plugs coming from different places, such as floor harness and etc.

The problems im having right now:
  • Cant get power to the starter. I can jump it with the battery and the motor will turn on. (I by passed the immobilizer)
  • The gas guage is not working (may be because I put a used cluster in there)

so far these are the two major problems i'm worried about, everything else is easy fix.

did any one of u guys have a similar problem, specially with starter?

If you had the donor car and swapped out that much i dont understand why the car isnt starting right. The main harnesses are the engine, and the 2 engine to cabin harnesses. That should be all thats needed to get the car to start. IF its not starting i would look at the ignition and make sure thats hooked up correctly.

i havent had time to diagnose the problem yet.

thats why i wanted to ask here if any body else had a similar problem and if yes, then i'd know right away what it'd be and i wont waste time looking for it.

starter problem?? ...Is your clutch pedal catching or not? cuz mine wasn't catching at first because there was a bracket missing on the top of the clutch pedal but as for the fuel gauge if im not mistaken the sending unit is different so it wont read- i have the same problem... My fix- go to the gas station every 3 days just to be safe till i get my hands on the sending unit or a wiring diagram- could just be some pins. I ran into way more problems then that though but im using a 99 tl to begin with... had to do the type s swap and the 6speed swap...

i might have to look into the donor car to find that bracket because mine is loose too. i dont think any of my clutch switches is bad.

as far as the gas guage not working, i figured out that the floor harness is different too.

i also have to change out the complete door harness including the window regulator because 03s had auto up and down on driver side. that was one of the plugs not matching up.

my power seats and sunroof are also not working, but that might fix itself as i replace the other harnesses

You dont need to buy them--- if you wanna take some time you can re-pin the connectors you have now and get everything to work properly- it just takes some time. I got everything to work with only having to buy 2 wiring harnesses. Its not too bad just look for a wiring diagram- I found some on all-data (if u can get access to it) and tehy showed which pins controlled what

Repin the wire harnesses. Most of the wires and connections needed are there to make every thing work.

thanks for the offer. I have the CD manual for the car. Only if i can spend a few hours on the car every now and then, i'm sure i can get most of the stuff to work.

what color is that connector? How many pin? I think you might be talkin about the imr controller- its a small black box mounted on the lower driver side pretty much behind the hood release lever..... i'm missing that one cuz i went from a tl-p to the cl-s motor. Now as for missing connectors i have a few but i know i still need the passenger side lower harness. My sunroof, seats (power and heat) and passenger mirror doesnt work. But i know i have to repin the harness to get them to work.

Not getting power to the starter is an immobilizer issue I'm almost positive. If you replaced your ecu with the manual ecu you need to have your key reprogrammed. Also the wiring harnesses are different from 01, 02 and 03. I went through this same problem when I did my swap. Basically my seats wouldn't move, back windows wouldn't go down, sunroof wouldn't work, and couldn't adjust mirrors. But the driving of a manual trans 99tl made it worth the trouble.
