Just bought a salvaged TL with the SRS light on

Hey everyone! This is my first post here. I just bought a 2000 Acura 3.2 TL for $3500. It looks great and only has 59k miles on it. I really couldn't pass it up. Since this is only my second car (had a salvaged 92 bmw 325is for 9 years) I'm not too familiar with what SRS is. I realize the SRS light is on because the car was hit hard at some point (not sure where, the car has original doors, quarter panels, trunk) I'm assuming it was hit low in the rear though. My question is what should I do about it? Will my airbags deploy if I am hit? Could it mean that I possibly don't have airbags anymore? I was just going to ignore it but I'm a little worried about the consequences of just disconnecting the light. Any suggestions are much appreciated!

Anyways, I love the car so far! I'm hoping I don't run into any transmission problems I'm reading about seeing as I'm not covered under any warranty (knocks on wood )

SRS stands for Safety Restraint System. It monitors the airbags, airbag deployment sensors, and seat belt pretensioners. The light means there is a problem in the system so since the car is salvaged, it probably blew an airbag. You'll have to have it checked out at a shop with an SRS diagnostic scanner to be sure what the problem is. I wouldn't risk driving around with it on because it could potentially be dangerous.

well it depends on why the code is on, if the car was wrecked it could be the airbags, seat belts, srs module etc. or any combination of those. you'll only really know once you get the srs code out of the computer...
