Just bought the rear wing spoiler

I just purchased the rear wing spoiler from Snook. Hope to get it soon. I'm thinking about going to the dealer to put it in. Anyone think I should try to do it myself? I can't find the instructions on the FAQ page.

However, it's 150 bucks for service at Hopkins Acura in Redwood city.

Anyone got it cheaper in the bay?

Hopkins is a little too far. If you want to go to Oakland I might get you a cheaper price.

I'd say go to the dealer or a shop to get it installed. Unless you're comfortable drilling through your trunk and mounting the spoiler... you're better off letting someone else do it.

There is no way I would drill any type of hole into my car (at least anywhere visible). Always the possibilty of fvcking up. I say screw the dealer and take it to a shop if money is a concern.

When the dealership informed me that it would be $165, I decided to install it myself. Mine came with great instructions and took me 1/2 hour to install. The dealership stated it would take 1 1\2 hours, that BS. I had no idea what I was doing, but mine came out perfect. I will try to outline the steps I took to install:

My instructions came with straight forward, and useful information.

What you need
1. 1/4 inch drill bit (with drill of course)
2. Screw Driver (my bolts took either type of driver)
3. Four pointed bolts to mark spoiler (these were necessary to align and mark holes)
4. Spoiler Gaskets (came with kit)
4. Rubber Gasket Sealant
5. Two Samuel Adams.

Instructions:
1. Drink first Sammy
2. Pop trunk
3. Place gaskets on top of trunk in the location about one inch (or less) from rear of the trunk (I taped mine in place)
4. Notice pilot bumps under trunk lid for placement of stock spoiler
5. Test fit spoiler
6. Place spoiler (with pointed bolts screwed into bottom of spoiler) and press down (hard) to mark all four holes
7. Check holes and location of spoiler one last time
8. Drill Four, 1/4" holes and one smaller hole for electrical wire
9. Run electrical wire through hole and snake through trunk near the location of the third tail light (you'll need two people for this) one to hold the spoiler
10. Use Rubber Gasket Stuff around holes and espically around wire hole on trunk lid
11. Place spolier on lid,
12. Place 4 bolts from underneath trunk to connect spoiler and tighten
13. Drink 2nd Sammy - whew!
14. Disconnect bulds from factory third-break-light, not the spoiler's break light
15. Tap into wires with one of those fancy connectors that you just snap into place
16. Enjoy spoiler

Hmm.. still don't feel to comfortable about drlling holes in my car. But ofcourse I'll feel hella good if I do it myself and I'll love my car even more once I do it. hmmm... Decisions, decisions... I'll wait until my spoiler gets here first..

Thanks for the instructions Vff1. Did you get your spoiler from here (snook) as well?

P.S. Vff1, are you going to the meet this Saturday (5/4/02) in Union Landing?

I purchased my spoiler on E-bay, paid $208, which included Spoiler, Light, instructions, color matched paint and UPS deliverly.

Yes, I will be there on Satuday. I'll talk to you then.
