Well, I'm sick and tired of its problems.

I'm getting severe vibrations in the front of the car that I have been battling for the past couple of weeks. I just had the right side CV joint replaced which did not solve the problem. I swapped tires with no success.

It's very, very weird and the shop that worked on my car is not 100% certain. They said it was a tire separation issue at first, then came back and said it was the CV joint. I've replaced the CV joint and swapped tires to no avail.

Under acceleration, the steering wheel vibrates a lot. Under moderate to heavy acceleration, it almost feels as if the front right wheel is hopping up and down. During left turn corners, the front right exhibits the same symptoms.

This is driving me nuts.

At this point, I am leaning toward engine mounts.

I've called the shop to discuss the matter, but the owner still has not called me back. I wasted over $200 and replaced a perfectly fine OEM CV joint for an aftermarket one based on their misdiagnosis.

I don't think it's a bent rim or tire separation. The vibrations get worse under acceleration and subside once I'm off the throttle. If it were a wheel or tire issue, it would be constant.

I think you should take it to the dealership, have them test it and found out the issue, THEN take it to a smaller shop to get that done. My 2 cents is mounts as well

A quick way to check if it is a blown engine mount is to get a buddy to rev the engine in park while the hood is open and you are looking at the engine. If you see the engine move more than you'd expect, that is usually a sign of a blown mount. Not necessarily a tell-tale sign, but you can get a good idea.

if you feel your car is vibrating then it's gots to be a engine mount if it's your stearing wheel vibrating then check your suspension/tires.
Check your hub rings if you haven't since it seems you've checked everything else.... it's a quick and cheap fix if it is. i noticed i had this problem after mounting on my Volks when going past 50km/hr i could feel the vibration. couldn't figure it out for a week... had the tires remounted and balances and everything... finally changed out the hub rings and the problem was solved.

Actually, try this with one foot on the brake and one on the gas while you're in drive. Be careful though.

Hmm lots of mixed opinions on this one. I anxious to see what is causing this.

There is a fairly rare condition that some TSX owners have reported with almost identical symptoms. The fix is replacing the axles.

I vote for a bad shock, or perhaps a bad wheel bearing. When you say vibration on the steering wheel, do you mean shimmy back and forth of the wheel? I would have the shop check all the supspension mounts and bushings. Because you seem to have the same symptoms when turning left, I would look away from a motor mount issue and towards suspension.

"Steering wheel vibrates" - suspension issue, usually - except the rack is mounted to the engine subframe, right? If the Right engine mount is bad, that'll move the rack as well, so you'll feel it in the wheel. My $$'s on the engine mount....

My guess on motor mounts. I had the same problem and I actually thought my wheel was going to fall off. I tourqued them, balanced my tires and even thought it was the tranny again. When i had it at the dealership to get the timing belt done, they said i had a blown motor mount and fixed it "under warranty" Funny how I drove in with 102k miles but on the paper it said 92k. That fixed the vibrations.

Now they are saying that the left side CV joint is bad, too. They are going to replace it and see if the problem goes away.

I'm losing faith in these people. It seems all they know how to do is blame CV joints and take a shot in the dark.

I'll know more by the end of the day today.

Let us know rob. I know i had it and mine turned out to be the motor mount. I mainly felt it under acceleration.Once cruising it went away till i put more throttle into it. It may be a bad CV, usually a shop should be able to see once up on the lift though.

i am still getting minor vibration at 55 mph to 65mph? Could it beCV joints for me?

made me think CV joints too, but I haven't had vibration issues yet on the TL.

I've experienced similar problems with my 03 TL-S as well. I've had a cracked motor mount at least once since I've had the car, which sucks, but luckily it was covered under my extended warranty.

Do you ever notice a vibration problem with braking? I get that issue at times too. They've machined my rotors because they were warped. They did this a few months ago and it's starting again... needless to say I'm not going to pay them to fix it again. My Acura shop in KC is really good about fixing their flubs, but it sucks to have anyone screw up even once.

Anyone have any thoughts on something other than the rotors that's causing my vibrations when braking?

I specifically had them check the engine mounts. They said the mounts were okay.

I'm getting pissed. Hopefully I'll get the car back tomorrow back in shape.

i had a problem similar to what your talking about and i replaced both axles and two motormounts adn my car ride fine

Im thinking along the lines of motor or tranny mounts how does it feel during idle and when you shut the vehicle off?

I just picked up the car.

Most of the vibrations and shaking are gone after replacing both CV joints. However, I still feel slight vibrations under acceleration and sometimes while cruising. It might just be the tires or an engine mount(s).

But yeah, most of it are gone. *sigh*

Try replacing the front or looking at it closer. Mine went away with the replacement of that. Also inspect the side for cracks.

Haha. Well, I still love my TL and when the time comes, it's going to be very difficult to part ways with it. But yes, problems like this would make the transition a bit easier for me emotionally.

Hey Rob,

It was hard for me to part with my TL ... but I sold it to a guy I went to grade school with and he's a mechanic, so I know the TL (aka 'Inspire') is in good hands.

Oh ... sure, invite Kris but no one else on this board, huh? I know where I'm not wanted! With how hot it is in Detroit today and forecasted this weekend, I'll wait until closer to winter to visit 'bama.

Ha, get the car out of the shop on Friday, have another problem on Monday.

I hit road debris on I-65 in the construction zone this morning and it took a chunk out of the sidewall in the front left tire (the sidewall belts are showing) and it severely bent and scratched my BBS wheel.

I am not too happy right now.
