To Juniorbean and all those true car afficionados. How long will our car look good?

To Juniorbean and all those true car afficionados out there,...will our car stay ‘fresh’? That is will the 2003 TL-S look good next year, two years, three years from now? Just worried with the sharp-looking TSX coming and a new TL due next September.

I like the fact that Acura is focusing on branding and maintaining a cohesive look with the grill on all their cars, so maybe that will save us. Also Honda designs usually look good for a long time, not dated.

I probably answered my own question, but just wanted to know what you all think about the longevity of our car’s design.

Thanks.

well, there is a redesign coming out next year, so within a year, we'll be considered "last generation". pretty much all depends on how good the new version looks.

as long as you keep it clean, it will look good forever in my opinion. in 40 years, maybe it'll be considered a classic like a '67 mustang or something hahaha

Well, thanks for including me as a true car afficionado

I agree with agean and Beiruty... even after you own the car for a while it still looks good. As long as you take care of it, it will look good. Plus, with an every changing aftermarket scene... more and more products will become available to keep the car looking unique and fresh.

As for the TSX.. keep in mind it's based off of the Euro Accord and will be brought to the US as a 4-door RSX which is really nothing too threatening to us. The new TL will take something away from us if it looks good... but if it's not well received... our cars will still be considered the "it" line/generation of Acura.

I mean, there are times I see cars from the 90's... and even earlier that are in mint condition and have some aftermarket mods and still look sweet. They still look "fresh" b/c those mods offer a unique look for them vs. a stock car from that same year.

Take the Legend for example. I still think it looks sweet at hell.

I totolly agree...I ave been driving my parents 170k mile 93 legendsedan lately...The exterior and interior designs are still great looking imo. And that thing pulls pretty well. Makes me want a 6 speed 230 hp legend coupe.

Yes the legend still looks nice as hell. My old man has a 123k miles on his 93 legend. No major problem yet.
Back to the topic. I think the TL will look nice for a very long time depending on how the new generations looks.

Honda/Acura usually have designs that are not awe-inspiring but a classic look that will age well.

To this day, I still stare at my 99 TL everytime I get near it or leaving from it.

The only thing (in my opinion) that seems to age on the TL is the rear end. The rear end always seemed rather plain or bland looking to me. Even though Honda cleared the upper lenses on the tailamps for 02-03, it only helped make it look a bit more updated looking. The front end looks quite fresh due to the 02-03 facelift. The 99-01 TL front end (the headlights and grille especially) seems somewhat dated. The CL looks like it will stay fresh for about 3 more years both front and back.

I have to disagree. IMO, the 02+ headlight design is a little too big. It doesn't quite fit in proportionately to the rest of the front end. IMO, the 99-01 front end looks more sleeker and thus look way better.:p

Oh and I love my car's rear end. I guess cause it's lowered, debadged, and have a bodykit on.

Actually, I love the way my car looks all decked out.

The rear design of my tls 02 was one of many main selling points for me. Love the clean understated rear...I agree that these cars will age gracefully. Plan on keeping mine for years.
