Jb Weld for engine oil leak

I was reading on another forum, forgot which one, but they talked about a TSB I think where they use JB Weld to fix leak in the engine; because of a word seal or something(can't remember).

I have oil stains on my garage floor from my car, haven't checked thoroughly where it is coming from yet, but just wondering if anyone else was experienceing this problem?

properly applied JB weld is fine for fixing a small hole or crack that might be leaking, say from road damage or something, but I agree with fsttyms1... find out whats leaking and try to fix it...

Engine steam wash will help you find the leak easily.

Funny you asked this. It brought back memories. I now have a 2005 TL but I got a 2004 tl when they first came out a couple cars ago. Had the 2004 for about 2 weeks and same thing. At first thought it was the trans fluid from the 6 speed and so did my buddy whos an acura tech at pohanka in chantilly va. Long story short it had a pinhole from the factory in the block and was leaking oil when it heated up and pressure built. Took it in along with 50 rattle complaints rough ride (summer tires) and they did not now much about the tl yet. They had th car for a week or so and my buddy called me and acura faxed a fix for it to use JB weld. I said to the dealer, BUY IT BACK. Here's why, I have had allot of experience with jb weld, gocarts etc.. but when you are bonding to an oily block it is difficult unless all the oil is gone and you can file down in the hole to get a good bond. Also what if some goes through the hole in the block and hardens inside. Maybe problems later. After 2 weeks in their loaner, back and fourth with the GM They gave me what I paid and I bought a TSX. Here is my point. How old is the TL and do you really want JB weld on the factory block of a new 35k car. If you bitch enough you would be surprised at what you can get. Sorry for the long response but I am a car nut and have been in your situation and being a compulsive and neat individual I could not drive a new car that I am paying for nowing the only thing holding the Oil from leaking through a hole in the engine is a 3-5 dollar quick weld that says it will never harden wright when mixed with oil or a smooth surface.

Almost forgot. To really properly find a leak you should go to a dealer and have them add a die to your oil. They will run the engine put on some night vision looking gogles and it will show where the leak is at exactly. Its like with kids those tablets they chew and the plauqe glows neon and you can tell where they need to brush.

Just go to a car wash and have them steam wash your engine bay and underneat your engine. This way, all the old oil residue will be gone and you can clearly see where the new oil leak is coming from.
