J32a1 Mod Headed To Dyno
Well, after some last second updates, the Dyno session has been scheduled for Thursday morning (9/6) to provide baseline data on a 2002 TL with and without the "mystery mod". Expected temps will be ~93F and 90% RH, a cool SF day!!! Hopefully we have a similar experience to the A2 engine family

I am new to this game so bear with me here ....you gents are bickering over an unknown product that "might" give you 10 add'l horse power in your 225 - 260 hp 30 plus thousand dollar so called "premium" cars.
While entry level Mfgs. like Nissan is distributing $22,000 Altimas with 245 hp @ a curb wt. of only 3,200 lbs. (with a 5 speed). All Maximas ($23 - $28,000) will have 255/260 hp and a 6- speed, with no look at me Type S badge (my suggestion is that you remove the badge before it becomes embrassing to have it). I just refuse to mention the $14,000 Sentra SE-R and it's 6.9 second time from 0 - 60 MPH.
Toyota Racing Div. distributes a supercharger for the Camry giving it 275 hp. These are the entry level cars people, with no "Mystery Mods".
How will 10 extra hp keep you from being humiliated in your 3,600 lb. so called "premium" car? Hopefully, your decision to purchase the Acura was for much more than hp. If not, you're in for a rude awakening when the above car owners pass you laughing and shaking their heads wondering why you paid so much, especially you Type S owners. How will your beloved Acura help you to respond? or will they forsake you and leave you to bicker over the Mystery Mod? Face it gents, your beloved Acura/Honda has again been trumped and left you hanging with those rather large car notes and no way out.

Unfortunately, my friend, you have it all wrong. Whether or not anyone is willing to do this mod to be faster than another car is totally their business only. I for one would just like to extract every last bit of performance out of my car for my own pleasure realizing that there will be faster cars out there and realizing that the introduction of these cars is out of my hands. So relax and let people do what they wish.
As for TRD, get your facts right. Its a supercharger and even with the supercharger the Solara was still no rocket.

Don't get upset, the facts are as I stated them....Camry or Solara, turbo or supercharger doesn't matter, you get the point.
My initial reply was only to solicit debate, not to create hostility. I am a TL owner who plans to purchase the Mod when it becomes available.
Who knows, maybe Acura reps visit the site now and again and comments like mine will spur them on. I am sure most Acura consumers are educated consumers (like yourself) and they are quite of aware of other mfg. offerings.
Don't sale TL owners short.

You've stated a lot of "facts" but also peppered your diatribe with lots of sarcastic bull**** such as "so called premium cars". Intentional or not, this smells a lot like a maxima.org troll post.
Heavy car this, horsepower that, car payment this. You've got it on the brain.
Yes, we bought the TL for for "much more than hp" as you put it. All intelligent consumers do. If horsepower were the most important figure, we'd all be driving hulking F-bodies. I guess maybe to some the content of the car means less than horsepower, but I'm happy to say that I'm not a member of that group.
If you bought a TL to take the crown at the stoplight drags, you're an idiot. Same as if you buy a Sentra, Altima or Maxima to accomplish the same thing. Using your weak logic I could smoke ALL of them with a 3-year old used Z28 and save $15,000 in the process. But at the end of the day you know what I'd have? A used Z28. Not saying much.

I see that you are investing heavily in Mods, why? You have a Type S... la de da. Perhaps it's to ensure that you will be able to keep up..while your rapid beating heart let's you know that you can't.....Better yet, you won't try, because it would be to embarassing watching the rear of a $22,000 Altima....Remove the Type S logo, for that will be the only way you can save face...To have that logo attached to your car once other consumers become aware of Nissan's offerings, would simply be too embarassing, don't you think?
Heaven forbid you try to keep up with the new A4/330i or the up coming W8 Passat or worse yet a 1.8T Passsat with a chip.
You see I am realist and I'm not from Maxima.org.

I invested in mods so that I can enjoy the car further, not to make up for an inherent weakness. And certainly not to impress anyone else. There's no such thing as too much power or handling that's too crisp. I've modded every car that I've owned and will continue to do so because I enjoy it.
You're completely hung up on the fact that I don't care if a $20,000 car can beat mine from 0-60. I don't care if there's a $10,000 car that can do it. I could have just as easily dropped 30 large on a Camaro SS and we wouldn't be having this discussion.
The "la de da" stigma that's attached to a "Type S" is one that you've created yourself. Vote with your dollars and don't buy one. But don't bore me with inane posts such as your last.

I personally bought this car because I thought it looked nice. Granted it does have great horsepower but that was not my main reason of buying it. Sure i could have gone and got a TL-P instead, but i am the type of person that will buy the best of that model car.
The Tl-P/TL-S are not drag cars, and never will be. Sure people put mods on their cars, but that can simply mean being different from the rest. Then there are people out there who would want their cars to have the lastest and greatest mod out there just to enjoy the full potential of the car.
The bottom line is most people bought this car because it had most of what people needed. It is not a drag car and never will be. Does that mean the IS300, BMW 3-series (not including 330 and M3) are bad cars ? They are under powered compare to the new Nissians. No, they are not...they are luxury cars.

You are new to this game. But that's okay. At least you were honest.Little education for you. None of the cars you mentioned compare to the TL. They are all lower-end cars. Lower-end cars with "factory mods" if you will.
Also, the cars you mentioned don't have the feature function most of us were looking for.
And 6.9??? Hahahaha. All 6.9 will see is my tailights.
And if you mean to imply that Toyota offers more performance for the money. They why do you pay so much for a GS300 that will smell my exhaust all day long? Then you have the GS400 that is well over $40K and it can barely beat at TLS on it's best day. (Stick to MT's time for both cars 1sicklex That way we don't go comparing different results from various sources.
)And if that's how you feel about bang for the buck, then why are you wasting your time with either of those Toyotas? I can get me a $14K car that will totally embarrass either car by more than 2 seconds to 60.
Sorry if I missed your point, I'm not used to this type of BS. :p

Okay, so Honda has sold you and I both a rebadge V6 Accord. Is a 200 hp Accord a worthy advisery to a loaded 260 hp Maxima SE or 245 hp Altima SE? I'll let you to answer that...by the way a previous body style Maxima just beat me from one stop light to the next (after I just installed the Injen CAI system).
Any feature you name on the TL can be had on the Maxima.
Why would you suggest a comparison between the TL & the GS300/400. There is no comparison, why do you think Acura went to the current RL or the previous TL? I'll tell ya why, they wanted to be perceived as a Mercedes/Lexus and fail miserably, thus the birth of your current Accord/TL.
Don't get me wrong...I love my TL...but I am also an educated consumer that don't back away from the facts, nor do I bury my head in the sand...I'll give credit when credit is due.
With that said, where the hell is this $300 Mystery Mod that is suppose to make my car competetive? (If you don't have it, don't publish it).

I don't like to argue which car is better than the other since I like all cars.
What kind of car you get is your personal choice. You shouldn't go around telling people that their car isn't as good as these new ones. Of course newers cars will have more features for a lower price, so that it can compete with the competition, especially cars that aren't considered high end.
So like your Maximas, or whatever. I'm not gonna tell you that they suck, because they don't. They're actually good cars.
And as for rebadging cars....Infinity and Lexus does the same thing. Durrr hur hur hurr....so you shouldn't rip on Acura.
So why didn't you get the 1.8T? Since they get 245 lbs of torque with a chip, I'd figure a performance fanatic like you would go for that?

And, just two weeks ago a raced a 5 speed Maxima that had better rubber on it. I ran him from 50-110+ Pulled him easily the whole time. The guy was cool and asked to run me from a dead stop at the next light. I have to admitt that I've read your type of post before and thought he just might whip me off the line. But what the hey. Gotta loose sometime. So we get a nice light, and off we go. He get's me about 1/3 car length off the line because I spin pretty good. However, as soon as my car hooks up it all over but the crying. I easily pass him before I get out of 1st and by the end of 2nd I let up to keep from embarrassing too much. At least 2-3 car lengths after 2nd and it would have been even more after my vicious 3rd. I chat to the guy real breifly and off I go.
Bottomline is that I had no trouble at all. So I expect the new Maxima to be faster than the last generation, but not 6 car lengths faster.
BTW - I know what I'm talking about when it comes to racing. I've been doing it for 25yrs now.
So don't believe everything you read about how much faster the new Maxima or Altima is going to be. At least I said I would wait and see for myself before I let some manufactures claims send me whimpering to my garage.

I traded a leased VW Passat V6 - 4 Motion with a Garrett chip for the TL. My wife drives a 1.8T Passat with the Garrett chip and most of the time I find myself driving her car. Prior to that I drove a '92 - 325i with a Dinan chip. Obviously, I am accustomed to performance cars so I expected the same from Acura.
I love the price, quality, room and styling of the TL, I simply want Acura to offer true performance improvements to keep the car competitive.
I did not mean to down rate any car or car owner...To those that have found my remarks offensive, please accept my apology, it was never my intent to offend any one....this will be my last reply to the subject....again I am truely sorry.

So, in other words GCroaker, do you just spend your time tooling around forums and talking **** when a new car comes out that has increased performance over its previous competitors? If so, well then you have a long a proaperous career ahead of you because I have news for you, THIS IS THE WAY THINGS WORK!
Would you have preferred or expected that Nissan come out with cars that cannot even compete with the current generation of the competition? If so you are foolish.
And yes, I think many, many of us wished Acura had a more type Rish offering in the CL and TL but realistically that's not going to happen and I think MOST of us have accepted that. However, for those of us who bought the car on its base merits (i.e. looks, options, cost, performance) and then wish to increase those attributes OURSELVES, why don't you just back off.
Sad thing is that you mention how these far less expensive cars are going to be better performers than ours, well the reality is that they are not all that much less expensive and I sure as hell would never buy an Altima. Furthermore, why don't you go and test drive some of these cars before proclaiming them the new champions--I have a very funny feeling that you might be somewhat dissapointed in some of the other aspects of the cars besides that big, truck derived, gas guzzling 3.5L engine under the hood. When the time comes, and it will, that Acura throws its 3.5L engine in the mix you can be sure that it will blow the friggin' socks off of the Nissan motors and I'm sure the 6-speed offered by Acura is going to be a whole lot better than the crap that's been described in the new Nissans.
Furthermore, and last point, if these are all of your thoughts why do you bother getting your ass kicked in races? And as for the Maximas being as fast or faster than the Type S's, well that's just bs. I have personally beaten probably over 10 Maximas that have wanted to race both prior to and after having my mods installed. ANd let me tell you, the last time I raced a 5-speed Maxima with my mods I had to let off halfway through first gear so I didn't rear end the guy.

i'm interested in this "dannen chip" for the bmw. that spelling seems closer to the yogurt manufacturer than the bmw tuner dinan. do you really know anything about these mods you are talking about? "supercharger turbocharger same thing" "dannen". give me a break. if all i really wanted was performance then i would by a '94 civic hb w/ high miles and either do a gsr swap then add a custom turbo. see if the maxima and the altima can keep up with that car that would probably end up costing $10k-$12k. and if the tl sucks so much then why dont you sell yours if you actually have one which i doubt.

But note that your post did read as put downs and an elevation of lower-end Nissan and Toyota products.
While I like to compare up my TLS with the GS300 and GS400, I do recognize that the GS400 is a better beast overall. But I don't think it's that much better to justify the almost $20K extra you pay for it. For less than $5K extra I can get high quality aftermarket wheels and tires, suspension, tranny, and the mystery mod and beat a GS400. And pocket $15K on top of it.
That said, even if the GS400 were only 3K more I still wouldn't buy one. Back seat was too tight for me, and I really don't like the looks of it. This is not a put down of the GS400 at all, it's just my taste in styling and certain feature functions.
To each his own and let's not put other people's cars down because of "personal preferences". And as stated before, if speed is the determining factor here, then none of these cars are in the game. There are much better choices for that than any of these.

I really dont care for the way your playing with people on the CL & TL forums. I'm not doubting you or your product. I just dont like the way your teasing the HP hungry people on the forums. When you get all your dynos done & your ready to sell your mystery mod then let me know.
