Yeah.... maybe Acura could work something out with you, like a Gen 3 TL for 50% off or something.... or better yet, FREE.... kind of a loyal customer thing!!

I am not sure how you put up with this. After the 3rd Tranny I would have tried to get Acra/Honda to buy my car back and purchase a 3rd Gen TL.

Even with 4 trannies, I think you got your money's worth with the amount of miles you put on the car.
Good Luck with your decisions !

That's shitty, Kris. Sorry to hear that. But I'm glad that it didn't happen while you were on the highway or anything.

Are you going to sell the TL now, then? Or are you still thinking about doing the transmission change?

I'm pretty sure your perspective will change drastically if you were that kid in the scenario.

Tranny 2 - 23,000 miles (done at Park Ave)
Tranny 3 - 1,100 miles (done at Acura of Ramsey)
Tranny 4 - about 3000 miles (done at Acura of Ramsey)
Tranny 5 - ??? (will be done at Park Ave)

Sorry to hear Kris. Have you considered getting the Lexus IS250/350 that's coming out later this year? Or perhaps the G35 coupe/sedan?

well from reading the caddy forums (and having had one for a total of a month on different times renting) they are a great car with very few issues.

havent looked at it, but with GM.s employee pricing i couldnt get any where near the car for what i can get in the cts. G35 i personally think is ugly and doesnt have the head and legroom i want

Not sure if you said - are you still covered under some sort of warranty with the third one? Are you beating the crap out of your TL? Using he SS mode a lot? Not saying you are doing something to your TL to cause this - just in case you are doing something that may "add" to the already failing Acura tranny.

I wish the statistic percentage of failures was publically available. I want to get a used car but rather pay this off. However the inconvenience of a recurring transmission failure scares me.

Though I should admit that I've only had 1 fail at 26k. So we'll see how we are at 52k.

That's really a shame - it really is disappointing you are experiencing this many issues with the (four) trannies.

I use SS mode all the time but I really don't think that's what's killing the engine. I baby my car but I guess at the same time I do drive a little hard. Either way, I could probably drive any other car and the tranny would still hold up. I don't do the 5-3 drop on highways, just a normal shift. I called Honda, they said there was nothing they could do. That was at about 40,000 miles. I'm going to get this tranny changed and keep it as long as I can. I get a company car soon (Chevy Malibu...bleh) so I'll probably keep this car for the weekends. If tranny #5 fails, I'm definitely going to be getting a new car. I just love not having any car payments though. I'm planning on trading my 02 MDX for the new 07 MDX so I'm hoping to hold this car till 2010 so the MDX will be paid off, if not at least where I won't have to have to 2 car payments again.

It is available in the NHTSA report. I'm not sure if they listed the actual percentage, but basically, there weren't enough cases to force Acura to do something about it. It's like a 15 MB PDF file from what I recall. Scanned in and tough to read certain sections. Interesting read though....
Looking for the link......
