dont sleep on a IS. The 6sp IS wont go down easily. We can beat it but it will be a close race...

I agree with what you say but its a 5spd manual not 6spd. The manuals can get a great launch and the TL-S will have to play catch up through 2nd gear.

I can tell you this when I have my '96 Maxima 5spd I had an encounter with one and when he passed me on the highway I step on it and we were dead on at about 140mph I could not pass him but he couldn't get ahead of me, I was right on his bumper.
So, at high speed I say the TLS will smoke him and taking off I say no problem. None have stepped up to the plate since I got my TLS.

Depends what kinda race. Straight line TLS wins....anything with a curve and the IS wins! The IS is not slow but the TLS is definitely faster.

you might need more than 5k to make an IS faster than a TLS. I doubt that buying and installing a TC on an IS is cheap. Not to mention that for 5k you can get a 3.5 liter upgrade or even the CT SC installed...maybe more like 5.5k for the SC (4k for the product)

you got it, exactly why i purchased the TL-S over the IS. I pretty much had a choice of which one and i test drove both. I felt more comfortable and relaxed in the TL-S interior. My family is on their second lexus, and i previously owned a lexus before the TL-S and the IS300 just didn't live up to my expectations of them.

From my experience, IS300's are slow compared to a TLS. Two of my friends have one and I beat them sooo easily. Bochenek is right about the IS being faster than the TLS after spending $5000 dollars though but it still is an ugly car in my opinion. Bottom line, TLS can beat an IS anyday of the week. Unless it has a ton of mods to make it faster

IS is NA...same engine as the MKIV NA Supra...but many enthusiasts turbo it (lots of cash but I am sure IS owners have it) and that thing flies! I would be scared of an IS with that mod

Also, I like the interior, it's kind of boy racer like and I am still in that phase.

Maybe when I mature one day, I will think about an Acura TL...for now I love the STi, IS300, 350z, etc.

Yeah, I was choosing between the IS (and sportcross), the A4, the BMW and the Acura...
None had the acceleration of the Acura, and the handling mods were cheaper than power-adders any day. A stock IS will not out-hussle a TL-S. Besides, there is only so much handling you can do in the TL-S before you maul your tires anyway...
The IS, A4 and BMW are all clearly better handling cars and the twisties are fun, but I wanted the acceleration first and foremost, and saving the $$$ wasn't so bad either...
Ferizzo is further right that it is gonna cost you a little more than $5k to beat a TL-S going straight, and a heck of a lot more than $5k if you are talking about the TL-S with the sc...
