Interest in ThermoBlock Spacers

Hey fellas, you may have seen the recent thread for the thermoblock spacer I had put on my car from Outlaw Engineering. Some have asked when they will be available, so I'm taking a poll to see how much interest there is. Sean at Outlaw Engineering said he could have them in the next couple of weeks, but needs to know the volume of interest. If you're new to the subject, we have a thread already chatting about the product, otherwise chime in if you have any interest. No clue on the cost, but probably dependant on number of people interested.

Here's the link to the other thread: https://acurazine.com/forums/ramblings-12/review-adobe-photoshop-album-1-0-a-96356/

VERY price dependent... If <$200, then probably interested.

Based on casual conversation, it's much less than $200.

depending on the price i would be interested... although i would like to see some other cars go through the dyno to get a few more before and after numbers....

Agreed. While I do believe this product does work, as ndawood says, it's nice to know what kind of gains are available. A before/after dyno would certainly help my decision to get this mod.

Yep, I'd want to make sure the problem noted in the VTEC range on your car wasn't the result of the spacer, if not it would be really interesting to see in on a car functioning normally.

I am interested, but like others, it depends on the price.

Also, what exactly would it include (parts-wise)? And could you look into the drop in power after VTEC as noted in the dyno graphs to make sure the spacers aren't causing a negative effect?

Thanks!

Weren't there VTEC problems on the BEFORE and after dynos? Would be nice to see a good dyno though. Would also be nice if they had them for TL-P .

This is an old thread but I'll resurrect it. I just bought and installed the thermoblock spacers from Outlaw engineering. Great product. Bombed around in second gear and it felt more snappy. The shift from 1st to second actually squawked my Toyos, didn't do that before the install. Plus the top of the Intake manifold (the aluminum piece showing in the middle of the cover piece) was still cool after about 15 minutes of running around, it's usually quite warm after that. I'm happy. Quick easy install, just get some gasket remover though, the gasket on the TB is a bitch to clean off, did it in about 2 hours including scraping off the gasket.

E-mail them. They are great to work with, answered all my questions quickly. They can probably set you up with the two pieces you need.

Thanks for giving us your review. I've been contemplating getting these. I think I will as soon as it gets warmer to work on the car. What chemical did you use to get the old gasket off?

From their website:
RESULTS: maximum gain 8.6 whp and 9.2 ft-lbs of torque at the 4900 RPM point with an average gain of 5 across the power band.
However, there's been a dispute with the shape of the curve.

I probably won't get a dyno, sorry too much cash to waste. IF you look at the shape of the curve, it looks like an issue before the spacers. Even with that issue they give good gains. Seat of the pants meter says it's quicker. I'll run it at the track come March to give you the gains from my previous runs (it's the only performance engine mod I've done since my CAI, which I've had with my first runs).

As for the chemical I used, beer. I gave my buddy some beer and a razor blade and 45minutes and two cuts later he had it removed.

Plus for not much cash and a couple hours time, plus cooler intake temps you can't go wrong. I'll give any gas milage gains next time I fill up (this tank has been burned running the crap out of the car).

Yeah, I didn't mean the spacers effected the curve. Just that there seems to be a problem with the car initially. For $90, it's a good deal. Probably will get your money back in better gas mileage alone.

Sorry didn't mean to sound offensive. I'll let you know the milage gains next week (i usually go through a tank a week, I drive alot). If you do order and have any install questions let me know. Maybe if I get time I'll make a how-to.

Yes it is different as it includes a spacer for the TB and the upper intake manifold. They don't claim to spin the air as it enters the TB either, just that it keeps everything cooler. Trust me it works.

Sorry if I'm positing a lot about this product, their offices are just North of where I live and for the price it seems to have worked great. When I get my headers I'll be probably just as excited (after spring hopefully).

Another quick opinion, today the car really woke up. The car definately feels faster. Getting to speed is quicker. I'd like to see how it works on the TL-P also.

Ok... in this picture you can see my Helix TB Spacer (diffrent tone of silver). Now, can someone explain to me if this is what you guys are talking about, just by another company?

Thanks!

Outlaw Engineering ThermoBlok spacers are thermal insulating replacements for your stock intake manifold and throttlebody gaskets. Made from a heat blocking phenol resin laminate, ThermoBlok spacers increase power from your engine by keeping the intake cooler.

If you could post a how-to that would be great. How difficult was it to replace the intake gasket?

Quite simiple, you retain the stock metal gasket and use the ones provided with the kit. The PITA one is the TB gasket. It's stuck on pretty good. I'll take some pictures tonight of what needs to be removed and such. I have the .pdf of the instructions also, so I'll use that. The only thing it'll be missing is showing the actual parts dissassembled, but it'll give you a good idea. Look for it tomorrow night.

Ok, so we are talking about two thermo gaskets/spacers, one for the intake manifold and the other for the TB. Now.... I'm curious to know that, if we add this thermo gasket/spacer to the intake manifold, for those memebers, including my self with the CT titanium strut bar, will the manifold clear, due to it being raised?

Does who have the strut bar, now that it's a close fit as it is? Please let me know if I'm off here....

It's not that big of a spacer. I have the Neuspeed and stock strut bars. The stock plastic cover still fits. Even my POS AEM CAI still fits with the TB spacer. I'll get the DIY instructions going tonight and you'll see.

Sorry guys, they'll be a bit. I'll try to get them tonight, but I've been slammed at work and will be for the next couple weeks. I'll try my best to take a break today and get them done.

I want to get these spacers installed on my car but am just trying to figure out whether or not I will have any problems in the winters since the car will be running alot cooler than normal.

Also for those that are interested a groupbuy is in the works and hopefully will be up and running in the near future!

I went ahead and ordered the thermoblock spacers for my '02 TL-S. I heard that the group buy would probably only save the $6 shipping cost.

Hopefully it will deliver the 4-5 whp as claimed.

The only way to know... will be to dyno a b4 and after... are you planning on doing that?

I ordered them as well. Probably not worth waiting to save $10 on a group buy. Hopefully they produce some noticeable gains!
