installing and intake... weird question....

ok heres the situation. i want to buy a weapon r intake. but im not at home right now im at school so i have limited access to tools. so i want to be able to switch the intake for the stock on every so often. so is this a hard task to remove and put the car back to stock. thanks it isn't a cold air just a short ram. i don't want to deal with rain and screwing up my car. thanks

easy it can be done in 20 minutes if you get a short ram intake if you have a long intake you have to take out to resonator which is a bitch becuase you will most likely take off your bumper to do so. you can have a short intake and keep the resonator in place and put back in the stock one if you want to ever so often.

yeah it wont take too long because you have a short ram so sits right in the engine bay. you wont have to remove the bumper like you would if you have a cold air. once you know how to do it, it shouldnt take more than 20 mins (my guess)

You may run across some headaches switching back & forth if you do the install correctly. Reason being is that aftermarket intakes generally suggests you re-route one of the coolant lines. If you were to do a REAL install you would have to replace this line over and over. Then again, you could be one of many members who've decided to re-use the metal coolant line and just hackup the aftermarket hose that came with the kit.

If you decide to go that route, then you shouldn't have to switch any lines...but keep in mind that doing it that way is a ghetto install.

Why would you need/want to keep switching the intake? If you get the CT Icebox, you won't have to worry about water either. The short ram won't really provide much gains because you are still drawing air from the hot ass engine.

On another note, you don't have to remove the bumper to install a "regular" CAI.

why do you want to switch back and forth? are you afraid mommy and daddy are going to find out?

i have a V2 on my car. installed it in 25 min. took both resonators out, and no you do not need to take the bumper off to do so. the only problem i see with switching back and forth would be the rubber fittings getting stretched etc. and things eventually not fitting together perfectly.

get the comptech ice box and they would never know you did any thing. it looks stock and makes the most hp gains of all the intakes

Not to hijack the thread...but...

You see the metal double pipe line closest to the battery? The bigger one is a vaccum line and the other a coolant line (hidden underneath). I have no idea why you would want to heat up your vaccum line, but after about 1 hour of driving, the pipes gets extremely HOT.

In a proper install, you split the lines apart like the picture above. The most common mistake I see is when people re-use the metal line but at the same time cut up the aftermarket hose (since the OEM rubber extention won't fit the CAI nipple).

But...if he has to go through the trouble of hiding mods from parents, and he's also mentioned that he's still a college kid, then there's a very good chance that $$$ would play a big factor in his purchase too.

Personally, I think the smartest move demolition_x can make is to remove the resonator and replace the stock filter with a K&N drop-in. With that setup, you've hidden all traces of a "mod", increased your intake sound, lowered the maintenance inerval of your filter, and removed all fears of any potential hydrolock.

With the money left over, you can put it aside for a used radar detector...which would benefit you more than any intake would.

It reduces noise. The intake resonator should look like this (2002 TLS).

And should be where the CAI filter head is.

hey edgalang i really appreciate the explaination with pictures but...
damn. you lost me when you said "why would you want to heat up the vacuum line" its weird, this is the first time anyone has brought up the issue of the vacuum/coolant lines about a CAI install because usually its like "yeah i installed my intake in 40 mins, no problems, runs great."

sorry, maybe ignorance isnt a bliss...

are the items i circled the coolant/vacuum lines you are taking about? (bottom is vacuum & top is coolant)

also in this picture:

sorry again for taking up your time

Can't see pics.

But...if we use this one as an example...

The left RED hose is the main vaccum line. The right RED hose is the coolant line. With the OEM setup, they share the same metal pipe.

Maybe someone else can chime in, in why Honda would want to do that cuz I have no clue.

FYI this is from a 2002 TLS. If you have a pre 2001 then your setup may be different.
