installed DVD nav i 99 tl, code incorrect

I swapped my 99 tl's hard disk for a DVD unit. Called the dealer, gave them the numbers from the unit and they gave me the security code. However, when i type this code into the promt, it tells me incorrect code. how is that? please help!

It might be that the unit itself is defective. Do you know for sure that it was working properly when it was pulled?

I just took mine to the dealership yesterday for the same problem.. I had unhooked the battery and it wouldn't accept the code when I hooked it back up.. They ran the code on the computer to ensure I had the right one (even though I know I did) and then decided that it was bad. They are shipping it off to get it remanufactured by the factory.. only have to wait 5 or 6 weeks to get it back. They quoted me $2100 for a new controll unit.. thankfully I bought the extended warranty so everything is covered!

Had the same thing happen to me. The navi wouldn't accept the code I was given by the dealer after unhooking the battery.

Call Acura customer care, they have another pin on file. You will have to fax reg/license and they will give you the "alternate" pin. Wish the dealer would have told me about this, they seemed to be oblivious to it.

I'll give this a try tomorrow I sure hope i don't have to buy another DVD unit. The only problem is that this DVD drive isnt the factory unit from my car because it is a 99.. I converted from the hard drive.

Absolutely send an email to Paul. He knows a lot about these systems and he helped me determine that a used DVD navigation box that I bought was likely defective. (Thanks again Paul!)

Also, Alpine has a repair program in place where they will fix a navigation box, if a repair is possible.

Hey folks, I had the same condition with my '02 when the battery died.
Thanks to Az I looked on the inside of my fuse box cover - and there was my code for both the radio and the navi unit. No prob's with inputting the code, so didn't need to unplug the antenna!
So for those who would say the code should not be inside the fuse box cover, i'd say you are right - but that didn't change the fact that it was there!!
