Infiniti I35 or Acura TL-S
With some of the quality issues on the TL-S, will some hold off on buying the TL-S and take a close look at the Infiniti I35 when it comes out in October?

I own a 2002 3.2TL-S and like the car BUT if you have not already purchased yet you would do yourself a dis-service to not at least look at the I-35. I am not saying that you will like or dislike it but look before you leap. The Infinity is a nice car and HEY maybe you'll like it who knows. Just look and you can always walk out and say "I like the TL-S better" :o

I would wait for the 2003 Infiniti G35 instead of the I35 because G35 would be the american version of the Japanese skyline and it is rear wheel drive. But that is just me. If I have to choose between TL-S and I35, I would pick TL-S, lots of car for the money.

And I can honestly telling you, I am leaning toward G35....

I was debating on waiting for the G-35 or I-35 but bought a TLS instead. I have always been a big fan of Nissans and liked the I-30 since it was redesigned in 2000. I was hoping that for 2002 that Infiniti would make the interior a little more sportier. I was very disappointed to see the pictures of the 2002 I-35. I think the older waterfall grill looked better. Also consider that the I-35 name may be dropped soon. Infiniti is planning to go all rear drive on their cars in the future to compete with Mercedes, BMW, etc.
The only minor complaint I have on my TLS is the poor fit and finish. It might be worth waiting to see what the G-35 is like. One more thing to consider with Nissan is first year reliability. There are already several minor compaints about the new Q45 on the Fresh Alloy forums.
One more thing to add. Many members on the Infiniti/Nisssan forums have been complaining about the current generation Maxima and I-30 paint quality. They have been getting exessive
paint chips in comparison to older Nissans and other car manufacturers.

paint chipping has been a common problem with MOST of the new cars, regardless of the brands. Mercedes, BMW, Acura, Infiniti and some.... they all suffered from paint chippings!!!
What's with the newer paints?? Are they made in lesser quality material?? Or the car makers are cutting corners when painting/preparing the cars??

While I don't have experience with the I35 vs. 3.2TL S (but hey, who does? ), I have driven my mother-in-law's I30 back-to-back with my 3.2TL several times.
The TL is a whole class above the I30. It's more refined, better built, and much better put together. And while the Infiniti's engine may be highly acclaimed, I think the TL's is significantly better; It's smoother and more powerful across the whole range.
The only place the I30 outdoes the TL is in the corners, where it has noticably less roll.
I can't imagine choosing the I30 over the TL. Now the G35 - Who knows? Let's wait until it gets here...

I'd never go from the Acura sport shift 5 speed transmission to the almost clunky feeling nissan non-sportshift 4 speed. Now, if Nissan makes these improvements and gives the I35 some decent lines so it doesn't look like a spruced up Maxima, that would get me interested.
And yet I'd still have the issues of quality, dealer service and resale value.
It's just that the TL falls short of what it shoud be in terms of fit and finish....thin paint, cheap plastic interior components and less-than-inspiring style. I feel like the TL just misses living up to its potential.
