Post Infiniti I30 vs. 01TL

I just bought my 01TL in Nov. and I love it. What are some thoughts on the I30. I was looking at both pretty close but I really wanted the TL so I got it. I still think about the I30 though and wonder if I did the right thing. Not that I have any complaints but the I30 is nice and pretty comparable.

I seriously looked at the I30 before purchasing my TL since I had been real happy with my Stanza. However the I30 was slower, more money and had less "bang for the buck". Not a bad car but I liked the TL better.

With all of the TLs I now see on the road the I30 would of been more unique even though it was just a glorified Maxima.

The only thing I like about the I30 is the rear automatic sunshade. Otherwise, the TL beats it in every category.

I too compared the I30. I was not impressed by the interior appointments. The dash console looks like a Maxima and has a "cheap" appearance on the radio, etc. It was comfortable and bigger in the back, but did not have the same bang for the buck as the TL. 35k with navigation...

I agree. Also thought the TL was quicker, better looking (w/ spoiler & body kit) and has a much better interior atmosphere all for less money.

Yup, we looked at the I30t too. My first impression is that the I30t appears higher quality. However, after listing all the +'s and -'s of both models. The TL was the logical choice.

Here is how it looked:

TL
++ price, + SportShift, + VTEC, + Acura quality, - generic styling, - leather on seating surfaces only, - less rear passenger leg room, - no split seats

I30t
+ stylish interior (esp. analog clock), + finished lower body look, + quality full leather interior, -- no SportShift, -- no VTEC, -- cost a few grand more

Summary:
TL 5+, 4-
I30t 3+, 6-

We leased a 98 I30t for 3 years. It was sort of the standard when we were shopping to replace it. Looked at just about all non American from Lexus to Volvo. Having looked at Acura when we got the I30, previous generation, my wife wasn't even interested in Acura. However, she saw a new TL and said she wanted to check it out. We drove to Orlando and she drove home in a 2001 Laguana with factory spoiler and body kit. Is it perfect, no but then no vehicle is. She likes it and that's what's important.

If momma's happy, then I'm happy :-)

We looked at both and dollar for dollar and performance vs. performance, the TL was a better deal and I don't regret it one bit!

Thank you all for making me feel better. Maybe now I can clear my head and get on with enjoying this great car. I really agree with the above statements but I just needed to hear other people say the same things that I thought when I was making my choice.

yelp, bang for buck, performance is what makes TL so popular. I30T has a unique design I'd say from exterior to interior. different taste. but since TL is faster , I like it a lot more. Time to do some butt whooping!

Hey if you realized, this is a TL FORUM, so I too will say that the TL is by far the better car, although the I30t does have more interior room and you can feel it up front and in the back.

I bet if there was an Infiniti I30t forum, you would get the exact opposite answers

I just drove both yesterday and can give these impressions...

Exterior: to each his own... I find the exterior of the TL "conservatively" styled (In other words, it doesn't turn-heads like a Passat). The i30, while similar to the Maxima is still quite unique and there are fewer on the road. Winner? Tie (slight edge to i30).

Interior: Again, everyone likes different qualities but there are differences. The rear sunshade is nice, but not enough to sway me either way. The quality of the interior on both is excellent. The leather in the i30, however, is MUCH nicer than in the TL. My local Acura dealer has a number of '99 and '00 used TLs for sale and the drivers seats on all 8 of them are all hard (and in some cases cracked). Also, the auto-climate in the i30 is easier to use and the radio sounds a bit better. Also, I don't like the parking break on the floor... reminds me of my old '73 Ford country Squire. Winner: i30 (by a hair...)

Engine: Tie... flat-out tie. I know some here thought the i30 was slower and vice-versa but personally, they both provided quite a kick in the pants.

Transmission: TL... enough said

Ride: i30t vs. TL...... i30 Wins. Plain i30 vs. TL? Tie

Dealer Service: Don't own either, but have friends with both. TL owner goes to Curry Acura in White Plains and says the treatment is better than his other cars, but no "lexus". My friend with a QX4 from Pepe Infiniti in White Plains RAVES about the dealer service. RAVES. Winner? Can't comment really.

Price: This is the tie-breaker, honestly. If the infiniti was $2,000 less expensive, I might choose it as the winner. But it is MUCH more expensive than the TL right now (especially with TLs going for invoice at the moment). Winner? TL.

so, my choice at the moment? Because of price and the fact that the TL has HIDs standard, the TL wins

I also looked at the I30 too and only like that screen thing that covers the back along with the naviagation that pops up from the console, but the I30 just looks so cheap and plus you cant modify like our TL's

I got mine back in october and I am generally happy with the car.

I actually test drove both TL and I30 back to back at edmund.com road test event they had in english town, nj.

I30: Bit bigger, softer ride, with even more body roll than the TL, Gear box is not as precise as TL. It gets confused too easily and doesn't know what gear to be in.

TL: Nice handling, gearbox is crisp, and many mods available. Good reputation compared to Nissan.

My wife and I test drove both the I30 and the TL before we purchased the TL.

Bottom line: When we mashed the gas on the I30, it felt like it had the pickup of a 4 cylinder! Mashed it, mashed it...and nuthin happened!

Mash the TL and WHEEEEEEEEE! HERE WE GO!
