Infiniti commercial
Did anyone else notice the debadged TL in the new Infiniti commercial? It has a current TL owner pull up next to a new I35 while the narrator says, "see yourself in a new Infiniti". Looks like a 2000-2001 TL.

I saw the commercial, but I didn't notice that it was a TL on the commercial. Wasn't really paying too much attention ... Pretty interesting though, will have to pay more attention next time it comes on.

I think the use of a 99-00 TL was premeditated by Nissan as the leases on many of these TLs are ending right now. With both cars sharing the same target consumers, it makes sense (I guess).

Yup
Definitely agree with that. Instead of touting the maxima and altima, they are falling over themselves with the infiniti line. At least with honda, the accord is in a different price range than the cl/tl.

Was just in the dealership (infiniti) last night to check out the new lineup .. and a woman and her husband were buying a G35... funniest thing .. she asks, "It's funny, why don't i see any on the road?"
The salesman had a prescribed answer of course, "I think you will in the coming months, the G35 is very new ... etc"
I do notice as well that at least in my neck of the woods, I saw MANY more '02 TL-S's when they came out than G35s when THEY came out...

The I35 and Maxima GLE (or loaded SE) pretty much have the same option availability (save for the trim/style and 6sp tranny availability) so they should be about the same price.
The base G35 sedan which is no more equipped than my 2K2 Maxima SE (w/sunroof) DOES run a few thousand more. So they're really not in the same price category.
Peace.

but think about it
If you are in the business of selling cars as a company (e.g. Nissan), why sell two cars that have very similar characteristics and are within a few thousand dollars of each other.
Wouldn't you want to create market niches for all of your products rather than cannibalize one for the other? Why do you think there will be no more oldsmobiles?

Think about this: Though the G35 base price is only a few thousand more than the Maxima, a loaded Max may only be sold for about $28G whereas the loaded G35 sedan may go for $35G. Maybe for you rich folks, swallowing an additional $7G is no big deal but for us common folks, I don't want to afford the higher payments.
Couple that with the fact that most prospective G35 buyers arent even considering the Maxima. These are the folks that are considering the IS/GS 300 or BMW 3 series. (RWD 6cyl Sport Sedan) Therefore, there wouldn't be any cannibalization due to the two different target markets.
The current Maxima is moreso aimed at the Accord V6, Camry V6 and Passat VR6. Nissan is aiming to replace the Max with the Altima 3.5SE in this category. --FWD midsize V6 Family sedan
(The new Max is aimed at the Avalon--FWD Fullsize family sedan.)
The current I35 is aimed at the TL and ES300--FWD entry level luxury.
With the exception of the Accord V6, Nissan has pretty much undercut the competitors in price (not to mention quality)

Wathced in slo-mo on TIVO
Just watched it in slow motion on TIVO and it appears that they cut the TL up a little bit. The side blinkers are missing the yellow portion, making the TL looked chopped.
