Inaccurate Fuel Gauge Reading when Full

I've noticed lately that after refueling my car, the guage does not go all the way to the "F" mark. In the past it has always gone beyond "F" after refueling (immediately), lately it only goes to the 3/4 mark and stays there until it actually reaches that point. Has anyone seen anything like this before, I am trying to determine if it has something to do with the sending unit. Thanks in advance!

Sending unit

You need to have your fuel gauge sending unit replaced. It's a common problem. I had mine replaced under warranty.

Do I need to drive my vehicle to the dealership on an empty tank, or a full tank? My guess is that they will fill the tank in an attempt to reproduce the problem.

Just tell them, if your dealer isn't stupid they should know about it already. It is a common problem, had it replaced on my car a couple of years back. btw what year is your TL?

Thanks for your replies. The dealer informed me to drive it in empty so that their job won't be as "messy".

BTW, my car is a 1999 w/ 94,000mi.

Yeah mine is a 99 TL too, a very common problem for our year. Once replaced tho, it should be fine. Are they going to charge you since you're over the warranty? extended warranty?

I have an extended warranty up to 100,000 miles, my service advisor tells me that this item is covered. Thank God for that, I don't think I would want to know that upfront cost.

Ya mine did that a few times before, then it would fix itself later. I didnt really worry about it, cause I dont want to pay out the ass to the dealer.
