Improve Appearance

Hello acurazine community. I am new to this forum and I am glad to be here to contribute/help others. But today I am reaching out to you all for some help and your thoughts on what i am planning on doing to my 00 TL.
Done already:
Tints
AEM racing intake
Sound system upgrades

What I want to do next(if you know good brands please include them in your reply):
New wheels-Black
Coilovers to lower car
Front lip
Maybe a new exhaust

If you have any other suggestions please add them. I am open to options and others thoughts. I look forward to uploading some pictures tomorrow.

Thank,

Chris

Im jealous of your paint... it looks in good condition

I recommend you to save up and get Coilovers like the Form & Function Type 1s or Type 2s

It WILL change the appearance of your car and improves handling depending how much you lower your TL

Also Coilovers first THEN rims

Do to it the things that you'd like, not just what your friends did.

Thanks I try and wash it daily if I have time so that the paint stays the way its shown.

I understand that you are trying to help and I do appreciated it. I am asking about all of this now because I have been saving up for a long time because either I was going to buy a new car or keep my TL but modify it a lot. I think that you know my decision now because I am asking about all these things that I want done. So to answer you Coilovers FIRST then RIMS, I am going to be doing all of this at once. It wouldn't look right if I didn't.

Also please don't be afraid to suggest other parts as well but please I am strictly sticking to appearance and not performance. I am thinking about the PANTHER™ - SCREAM Flat Black with Machined Accents OR
VISION™ - SHOCKWAVE Gloss Black with Machined Lip
Both of them are Wheels. Does anyone know the stock wheel size is it 16 or 17inch?

Welcome Cwallace1, your oem stock rims are 16". Your best choice for custom rims is 18".

Your TL is a good color to start with, black accented rims along with tinted windows would go a long ways to help your car's overall appearance once it's lowered. Your next best thing would be a lip kit, hard to find......but worth the effort and money.

The TL is an entirely different car than your friends and you should try to personalize it in a way that he will be jealous of your ride !!!!! Good Luck !

Thanks for the reply. Do you think since my tires are brand new that ordering another pair of 16" wheels will look alright when I lower my car? Also what would you recommend brand wise? I am thinking of using coilovers since that is what I am told is the best overall to use.

Also, you can always change the color of your rim with powdercoating for 90-110$ each rim

If it is to hard to find the Oem kit, Another good brand for kits is West Wing
Sooner or later I will be selling my side skirts and my rear lip just to let you know

Why not try out the M3 lip spoiler, itll make the car look clean IMO

Hey Cwallace1, check out the "Tires, Wheels and Suspension" subforum along with the "Pic Gallery". You'll get much better feedback along with actual pics of other 2nd gens lowered with rims.

Your car will look only ok with a minor drop, but if you're going close to 3" drop.....then you really need the 18" rims and lower profile tires to outdo your friend and then maybe better, if ya get the lip kit....ya got him beat !!!!

Save your money and just do it, your car is clean and will turn out to be a whole new look.
Check out the pics of others and your sole will be sold ! Summer is nearing and the babes will luv the ride !

Have you thought of the inside as well? LEDs for your map/dome/plates/courtesy lights go pretty far in my opinon. I'm still debating blues vs whites though.

ATM I am mainly focusing on the exterior but I am sure I will do something to the interior after I finish the Exterior.

Anyone else have any Exterior suggestions please add them here.

Order of what I'd do those mods in, remember you can ride the new rubber on the stocks out THEN get the 18" wheels which you'll love a lot more than tiny 16's. No need to spend money only to spend more money down the road to get what you really want.

1. Coilovers
2. Lip Kit
3. Spoiler
4. 18" wheels
5. Interior stuff

+1, Coilovers should come after the wheels. Dropping a car on 16's is silly looking if the drop is anything more than an inch.

Yeah, put the lowered look on hold or sale the stock "OEM" wheels to help your cash flow for the "Real McCoys" !!!!
18's. All depends on your level of patience. At your age ...... I wanted it all, and right now ! I did it and don't regret it looking back to my more youthful days of yesteryear.

alright so it seems that getting new wheels is only worth it if I put on 18's. Along with dropping the car with coilovers. So I think I just need to man up and get the right parts. I do thank all the members that have helped me with this project.
If anyone knows any good deals on tires since I will need new ones, please let me know.

Hello everyone again. I just thought I would let you all know what I am going to be buying in the next couple of days. You all have done a great job of talking me into new rims with tires. I am hoping I will be able to get something for my factory wheels and tires once I get my new ones installed.

New List:
Spyder OEM Spoiler
Kumho Ecsta AST 235/45R-17 94H BSW
Spyder Universal DRL (Daytime Running Lights) Engine Activated LED Lights - Black
Vision Shockwave 539 FWD Silver Paint Mach. Lip
Tein Street Basis Coilovers

Total is just under $2000

The main objective of lowering is to fill in the gaps and streamline the bodylines of our long low slung cruisers.

Hence the desired ultimate goal of matching low profile tires mounted on larger diameter rims, along with the
lowered suspension hugging the tires for the really kool awesome flush down look !

Oh .....ah ....yeah....so sexy !

Yes, I want the wheels to be flush with the car. Would the 17x7 inch wheels be flush because I am getting an amazing deal for these 17x7 inch wheels. Please let me know if it is.

okay well if I stepped it up to 18s would it be better? The whole idea is that I want the wheels to be flush with the body.

17s are fine but the width should be at least 8 inches. look up what offset is before you go and buy wheels. your offset, in addition to the wheel width, will determine if the rim is flush to the fender.

So the ones that I have currently in my shopping cart are, 17x7's 42mm offset. Will this fit flush with the finders?
