Exclamation

Wouldn't this actually hurt performance since our car is designed with a Y-pipe and two outlets??

Plus, there are two exhaust cutouts on the bumper, so it would probably look wierd with just one....

Agreed. I don't know about the performance aspect, but it just wouldn't look right.

well the cutouts are some what hidden and are hard to see unless u get down to look, but i dont under sand y u would lose power with a single exhaust i think the only down side would be the noise it would make

I am not in any way an engineer but let me be a little technical. Lets say that the stock muffler allows 400 cubic feet per minute through. This is pretty average I believe. A straight through muffler will allow roughly 33% more flow, allowing a flow of 532cfm. However if you have two mufflers flowing at 400 cfm that means that the system will flow at 800cfm. Remember all these numbers except the 33% are hypothetical numbers.

Wouldn't going to a single exhause setup let him gain more torque due to back pressure.

gain torque but lose horsepower... this would look ugly anyways... don't do it.

That may have been the case if the dual mufflers didnt connect into one pipe. I mean if the dual muffers each had their own pipes to the headers then yes this would be the case. But as far as air flow you only can get as much air out as your single pipe running to the two muffers can handle.

(EX: Lets say the 2 mufflers let 800cfm of air pass but the pipe connecting the two mufflers to the headers only has enough space for 400cfm at the point it would no longer matter how much your mufflers let out because your pipe only let out a certian amount.)

Pratically all of the S2000 after market exhausts have one outlet and they also have 2 cut outs standard. My friend (Elistan@S2Ki) has a J's Racing Exhaust single out sounds great (deafening @ full throtle though) and improves hp. He actually bought the removeable add-on silencer after about a month. You really don't notice the second cut out unless you really try. His car is black so that helps too.
