Im new, help me out.....
My lease on my 99 prelude is over in October 2002. I am already lookign at TL-Type S. I love the looks. Not that it matters, but what is 0-60, 1/4 mile, top end?
How does it handle stock wise? I am used to great handling.
Also, whats up with these magical Comptech headers that free up gobs of HP? Cost?
what does the TL-S put down on a dyno... stock/comptech headers?
thanks in advance

Hey Newbie.
Try using the search button and find the ansers yourself. A lot of particpants on this Discussion Forum are interested in sharing new information, not bringing up a Newbie up the learning curve each and every time. Once you finish your research we can talk.

Prelude --
Good questions: 0/60: 6.28 (motortrend)
1/4mi: 14.7 (")
150 mph (top end)
On the dyno, you're putting out about 200hp at the wheels, and w/ comptech's and exhaust kits and CAI, you're putting down about 225hp at the wheels. At the crank, w/ headers you're up to 280-290 hp, although this is the source of much debate. Torque isn't going to go up much w/ headers, it's more your high end power (5000rpm+), hence the increase in hp.
Comptech headers will run about $1100, install by Acura about $450-$550 depending on your dealer charge per hour (this included exhaust install and cold air induction kit install).
Not a bad $1600.00 investment considering the car runs $31K!
Your Prelude is considerably lighter than the TL-S -- which weighs in at nearly 3600lbs. The car isn't sprung like a prelude, which is a great track car -- it was rated at one point as the best handling car under $30K. Plus, it's lower and more nimble. Doesn't even compare to a TL-S's sport perforance. I'd recommend Comptech springs and sways before making a serious comparison as to the performance of these two cars.
Best of Luck.

The handling is pretty good, improved over a TL (I owned both), but if you add the Comptech springs (about $550 installed with an alignment), it handles MUCH better.
Don't forget, by the time your lease expires, you may be able to get a manual 6-sp tranny!

I'm in agreement with PeterUbers. I also have a 92 Prelude Si, and it's a totally different car than the TL-S.
The Prelude handles so well, and I can take it up to unbelievable speeds through pretty much any types of turns, as well as straight-aways. The TL-S is much smoother, quieter, and has lots of power to spare. But, without Comptech springs and sways, and better tires, it doesn't have the nimbleness of the Prelude. After all, it is a four door luxury sports sedan.

I've literally seen an MR2 (great handling) and a Prelude take turns at least at 45 mph w/ NO body roll evident to me (I was trailing) and no noticeable high g fade -- that car tracks incredibly well, and I bet a lot of it has to do with the fact that its weight ratio is one of the best ones around considering what a wide wheelbase it has. I believe the TL-S mounts the engine directly over the wheels, enhancing some of the traction up front -- but when you get down to nuts and bolts, it's too high! and on hard accelerations, much weight is shifting rear-ward, and you lose traction up front.

Did you change out the shocks at the same time you swapped out the springs?

I would hesitate to swap the shocks out -- I think that for cornering applications, they are fine w/ a good set of springs. Plus, that pseudo-cushy road feel would be instantly gone w/ some sportier shocks, and then the car would definitely ride like a tightly sprung track car.

This link will show you the impressive dyno-ed results of a 2001 Cl-S w/ and w/o headers -- plus it'll show the torque differences too which aren't that much.
