ignition recall?

what is the story with this ignition recall thing. my car has been shutting off on me and has almost caused me to get in an accident twice. (car shuts off while going around a corner and i lose power steering causing me to go into oncoming traffic). does anyone have any information on this because my local service representative keeps telling me there is no recall. i took it in for this problem a month ago and they told me my battery was bad

well, i'm from canada, and i took my car in last week regarding the ignition recall. i personally had not experienced this problem bout the car shutting off, but my guess is that u do have a faulty switch cux the service department representative described this problem to me, ur problem sounds very similar to the one he explained.
well bring it in again, good luck

If you register at www.acura.com in the owner's link area www.ahm-ownerlink.com , you can get recall notices according to the VIN you register with.

Washington, D.C. - The U.S. National Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued its monthly list of vehicle recalls on July 31st. Among them was a recall by Honda Motor Company of approximately one million cars to replace a defective ignition switch which could fail causing the engine to stall. The cars involved include Civics 1998-2000; Preludes 1997-1999; Accords 1997-1999; Odysseys 1997-1999; CR-V's 1997-1999; Acura CL's 1997-1999; and Acura TL's 1999. Honda dealers will replace the ignition switch.

As well, Honda is recalling approximately 26,000 Acura 3.5RL's, model years 2000-2002, to clean and replace the brake stop switch which may have been contaminated by lubricating oil.

Do you guys know if I have to wait for the recall notice or can I just bring my car in for it?

BTW, my car is working just fine but if there is a recall for it then I might as well have them change it.

I saw this on my Acura "Owner's Link" page:

TORRANCE, Calif., May 23, 2002 -- American Honda Motor Co., Inc. today announced a voluntary recall of certain Honda and Acura models to replace an ignition switch which may cause the engine to stall. The recall involves about 1.3 million of certain 1997 to 2000 models of the Honda Accord, Civic, Prelude, CR-V and Odyssey. Also included in the recall are some 1999 Acura TL sedans and certain 1997 to 1999 CL coupes.

Wait for it if you don't have any problem.
Otherwise you are going to have to go through the reimbursement process once you received the recall notice.

Mine work OK too, but what the hell, i'll bring it in later this week.

Got the letter today. No problems yet, sometimes takes a while to start up. Calling the Dealer tomorrow to set up an appoint.
