I'm not one of the "old crowd" (like Gomez ) - I'm 20.
Your parents only gave you $10k for your first car? My first car was $2300 and that was a lot.
Fact is, you don't appreciate things as much unless you earn them yourselves. No arguing with that.
I'm not saying that if your parents buy you nice things that you are a spoiled brat. I'm just saying that you won't treat it as well as you would if you had earned it and that you probably won't treat it as well as it deserves because you didn't earn it.

Whoa, low blow! Sonny, I'm gonna take some extra geritol tomorrow morning and come over and kick yer ass!!!
This thread cracks me up more and more each time I come back - it's like everyone has to get on a soapbox 'cause they don't think the kid deserves the car. Jeez, who's to say I deserve the car, much less anyone else. Lighten up, y'all, and let a brother have a little fun.
If you guys are so down on the youth of America, then just tell him to get the TL 'cause it's the safest car of the lot. I went to a ritzy-ass high school as a kid (Highland Park HS - Dallas), and BMWs were a dime a dozen. One kid even had a new Ferrari. Was I jealous? You bet, and I made sure to work extra hard to try to get that brass ring myself. My folks kind of spoiled me, too, and my Dad always made a point of saying that since I seemed to appreciate the finer things then I need to work extra hard in life. Nothing could be further from the truth!
And anyone who feels that they're invincible at 17-25 years old needs to sit down and play some poker with this old man, BTW...

I didn't mention whether you were or were not thankful -- only that if one gets something for nothing there WILL be and IS a difference when you work for years to get what you get.
Whether or not the kid... well, I guess I'll have to wait until I'm Gomez's age to say that ( )... Whether or not the guy gets a $30k car, I can't say that he should or shouldn't have it. I just hope he doesn't turn out like some of the kids people have talked about in this thread -- kids that will never learn how it feels to work so long to have things.

Hey Ed,
I'm coming up on 140,000 miles in my 87 accord. It is one of my greatest moral possesions because it contrasts so well with my TL. After a year and a half, I still appreciate every second of life. Sometimes, though, i think the 87 might handle better...
Does anyone else think all this is funny? not be distract from the profound topic of discussion, but something is funny and sad about this entire scenario.
