If I use the sport shift feature daily, will this kill the tranny's lifespan?

Some will say yes and some will say no.. I personally just leave it in D5 about 90% of the time and only use SS when I need to pass someone quickly on the highway.

same with mods...your tranny will die regardless....now if you treat it like shit, then any tranny will die, but with some care, you can mod our rides and be all good as long as you have a solid tranny now.

My tranny went back at 40k miles... I use the SS about 95% of the time, but I also "gun it" off the light quite often. I have to admit though, the dealership took care of the tranny problem within 3 or 4 days, I had a loaner car, and haven't had any problems since (knock on wood). I know, it's one of those things that you dread, and don't wanna see happen to your car, but when it happens (if it does) your dealership should take care you quick (for one thing, they're used to it). It's really NOT that big of a deal... it's NOT like as if you find out your g/f's pregnent or something.

The weakest part of our tranny is the 3rd gear clutchpack. It breaks down from repeated upshifts 2 -> 3 and downshifts 4 -> 3. Because the TL tranny is concerned mostly with gas conservation, it has a tendancy to upshift as soon as possible. This means in stop and go traffic you can be upshifting from 2 -> 3 and downshifting from 4 -> 3 quite often. With SportShift, you can control these shifts so if you know you're going to slow down soon, you don't necessarily need to upshift from 2 -> 3.

This isn't necessarily going to save your tranny from death, but it will help to prevent any undue stress on the 3rd gear clutchpack.

If it's going to go, then it's going to go. If it's not going to go, then it's not. Don't worry about it. If you worry about it, you won't enjoy the car. That's what the warranty is for.

I HATE leaving it in D5. If you know how to drive stick, you'll realize the car is ALWAYS in the wrong gear. Always higher then you should be in. I use SS ALL the time, the only time I didn't use SS was when I only had one hand to drive with.
