I want to buy some sport springs from H&R. Will only putting on the springs without anything make the ride horrible and hurt the cars suspension system?

people suggest upgrading to newer struts because the old stock struts might not do it. a good upgrade would be the KYB GR2 or the tokico blues. If you're looking for adjustible the KYB AGX and the tokico Illuminas would be your best bet.

any shorter springs are going to change the dynamic forces applied to the stock shock

If you're paying labor to take out the springs, you might as well change up the shocks as 01tl4tl has suggested. Make sense. If you're living in a place that never sees salt on the roads in the winter, then you may want to consider coilovers since they have the spring and shock engineered together, so they complement one another.
Just a thought.
