idling ????

Turned on the car this morning and the engine started reving from 1 to 2k back and forth back and forth as if I were reving the engine to race. I tuned off the car turned it back on and it didnt stop, the check engine light came on as well. I think the check engine light came on b/e of the odd reving. Does anyone have any idea what this could be. Stuck throttle maye??? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It could be due to low coolant or a faulty idle control valve, most likely. I think the valves still had coolant running through them on these years, but my mind isn't what it used to be.

my 03 S does similar things. The only problem is the Chk engine light does not come on and the dealer can not reproduce. The tech seems to think it might be the Idle control value, but with out being able to reproduce or any codes they can not do anything about it. My idle also drops below 500 rpms and the car wants to stall.

Good luck with it as I am still fighting it hoping the engine light come on.

Just spoke to the acura dealer, it will cost me 90 big ones to tie me up to the machine to see if they can get a code out of the car. Is acura the only one that can do this for me, meaning get the code from the car, or can I go to any mechanic shop. Sorry for the ignorance in advnace, Thanks!

oops!

I just remembered there is a possibility it could be a throttle body as well. What year is it?

99. Dealer wants to charge me 90 bucks to put it on the machine to get a code , hopefully. Is the dealer the only one that can extract a code from the computer or can I go to any mechanic garage. Thanks.

anyone with an OBD II tester should be able to access a code. Can't remember, but I have a feeling the idle control circuit or throttle position sensor may be part of the throttle body on this car.

Im in Cali. specifically L.A. county. Here at the Local auto shop AUTO ZONE. They will lone you the tool to read the code for free. I dont know if you have an auto zone, but It may be worth checking all the local shops. (napa, pep boys, big O)

Sounds like idle control valve. Try cleaning out your throttle body with some carb cleaner, wipe it down and respray. Start the car and if problem persist then anybody with a obd2 scanner can pull the code just like Bluenote said.

Thanks for all your help guys. It seems the coolant in the rad was fine but in the reserv. it was low. Once I filled the fluid to the proper level in the reserv. the problem went away. I thought this was going to cost me big $$$$, I guess we always think the worst at times like this. Thanks again.
