I tried and failed (Door Opener)

Bebber helped me realize my dream... wasnt gonna happen. but just wanted to give an update. im sure no one will admit to seeing MIB 2 but im sure you did. you know how the mercades doors could open and close by remote? i wanted that badly. Bebber checked it out for me and found that it was possible, but would cost over $4000 and intrude on the interior of the car. if anyone cares, ill try to explain further.

that was pretty sweet on the benz. 4K really? shaved doors pop out when you unlock them with a remote, so all this would add would be a strong actuator to open and close the door. they have stuff like this on the new 740 to open and close the trunk so I can't imagine the doors are far off.

only thing that would suk isthe door dings from door automatically flying open.

the biggest problem was that acuators wouldnt be strong enough and that two hydrolic arms would be needed. one to open and one to close.

JOSH, come and explain if you have time please.

the problem would be that the arms would encroach on the interior space of the driver and passenger i think. i still think a bending motor arm should be possible.

what do all you engineering wizzes think?

You could probably put the bending arm Under the car instead of intruding into the cars interior. The problem with that is what do you do with the side skirt? Or is there an arm that is flat/thin enough to fit between the bottom of the door and the side skirt?

There are actuators that can push/pull over 100 lbs. and w/motors operating at very slow speeds. (the slow speed motor would eliminate the "door dings" scenario, but they aren't cheap though) However, an actuator right near the door hinge would probably require more than 100 lbs of force to open the door. Even if you used a quick pop actuator to initially open the door.

Well, the only thing left to do is experiment. Let us know when you have the prototype working.

Well,

I am eventually going to get door poppers and intergrate them with my clifford alarm, so once my handles are shaved I hit the button and the door will pop open...not all the way but just enough to grab the window and open it...

Ya, I was thinking the same thing....nothing that will open the door for me, just enough to pop it open so i can grab the side and pull it open.

whats the point of popping the door? you still have to use your hand to manually open it? how much does shaving the handles and gettin the poppers cost?

securtity. no door locks means it's harder for someone to open the door without poping it. also less chance of scratches since your hands and keys don't go near the paint as much

but looks most of all...sleek looks
