I was Spanked by a Ford Pick-up Truck
Guys, please console me. Me and my TL were just torched by a Ford pick-up truck. It was an SVT “Lightning” How can this happen; I mean he was pulling away from me at 115—I didn’t bother to pursue because I couldn’t catch him. He also beat me off the line and that very rarely happens. When he brushed me his Ford made this nice wizzing noise not a crude rumble at all. Is that SVT souped up or what?

You're kidding, right?
"The 2001 SVT F-150 Lighting can do 0-60 mph in 5.8 seconds and finish the quarter-mile at 100 mph in 13.9 seconds. And we can assure you, those 13.9 seconds go by very fast indeed."
Not even close.
Horsepower 380 hp @ 4,750 rpm
Torque 450 lb.-ft. @ 3,250 rpm
Longitudinally mounted, single overhead cam, 90-degree Triton™ V-8 supercharged/intercooled, cast iron block, aluminum-alloy heads, forged steel crankshaft.
Oh and it's rear-wheel drive.

Yeah, I learned my lesson. I won't do that again. I went to Ford's web site and read the specs...I had no idea a pick up had that kind of stuff under the hood. And I thought another Pick-Up to burn off the line-ouch!

Sorry about the loss there...but just remember, there's a hell of a lot of cars out there faster, mostly stock, than the TL...mods or no mods.

:wow: :wow: That new lightning is WICKED!! LOLOL.... Now as far as the other ones, I still dont like them, and I wouldn't trade my TL in for any of them, no matter how much they could beat me by! But if I was going to get a truck, it would in fact be the lightning!!!

Pick-up drivers really are the biggest a-holes on the road. Last week I was on the freeway with my window rolled down and a ****ty ram pulled up beside me and the passenger blew an aerosol can horn into my ear. At the time I exited but I wish I had followed and called the cops.
F**king A-holes! :chainsaw:

the pickup truck Marty (Michael J. Fox) coveted in Back to the Future (1985) was a Toyota, who started selling compact pickups in the US in 1964.
Nissan (Datsun) was the first automaker to sell a compact pickup in the US... in 1958...
Mazda has sold pickups in the US since 1986.
Japanese auto makers have just recently started making FULL-size pickups...

Honda has a full size in the works, it maybe powered by a version of GM's pushrod small block V8 since Honda is supplying GM with 4-cyl engines for some of their lower line autos.

Yo, that Dodge is the truth! Granted you only get about 3 miles to the gallon, but who cares with 500 ponies. I always knew the lightning was a bad boy, but did you guys ever think that there would be this many production trucks that could not only beat, but whoop the TL?

#one is a Ram.
# two is a Chevy.
They are both models of extreme ineficiency with spotty manufacturing track records.

Lirhtnings and other Trucks
I worked on the design of the Lightning powertrain when I worked for Roush Industries in Detroit. They did everything right from scratch on that engine. It is even assembled on a seperate assembly line at the engine factory. And to correct someone it is not a cobra engine stuffed in a truck. Actually the 03 Cobra engine was based on the lightning design. But Lightning are also rated conservatively due to the Cobra problem in 99. I would say that the Lightning is closer to 400HP.
As far as getting beat by a F350 or 3500HD, just watch out for the diesel versions. I have a 2003 2500HD with the Duramax and it gets up and moves for it being a crew cab truck. I have never really raced anyone in it but I know it is quick. Of course I have second truck that I have not lost a race in yet but I have quite a few draws.

you will never get beaten by a stock diesel f250/f350 or dodge's hemi truck or chevy duramax... ever, not even in 6th gen 200hp v6 accords...

"Dodge says the 4x2 Hemi will do the 0-60-mph dash in 8.3 sec, which puts it in a dead heat against a GMC Sierra HD with the monster 8100 Vortec V-8."
pull up some 0-60 times and find out for your self...

Honda is working on a "truck". It will be based on the Pilot and coming out in Model year 2005. It won't have a body on frame design and instead will be Unibody.

Stock, a diesel truck would not beat a 3.2TL and I did not say that my diesel truck would beat a TL. But I do know of a couple diesel trucks that can pull off 13 sec 1/4 miles. The modifications are endless for the trucks. Also you can get propane enrichment which is just like nitrous for a diesel. All of this is very easy to conceal. Plus, I know from my experience, that when you can preload your turbo at a light you can get the jump on a lot of people in a street race.
