I need your input on a decision...

A friend/coworker of mine has an '03 SSM TL-S w/ Navigation. It's basically an identical car to mine, except it's stock and has navigation.

It blew the transmission during a trip and is currently sitting in D.C. He doesn't want to fix it (was quoted around $4,000) and is getting a new TL this week. He has offered to sell it to me for 1,200 as it sits.

I've driven the car. It's in solid shape with roughly 140k on the odometer.

I'm seriously considering picking it up as a parts car. Shipping would cost probably around 500 from D.C. so roughly $1,700 when it's all said and done. What do you guys think? Worth it or not? I would take parts off of it to keep, and sell the rest.

Then, of course, I would need to get rid of the frame somehow... which could be a pain in the butt.

I'm sure there are other factors to having a "parts car" that I haven't thought of. So I would value your input on this. Thanks!

After you have gotten rid of everything, you could just have it taken away to a salvage yard.

Since it has navi, why don't you swap everything over from your car into this car so you can now have navi?

+1. Do it. It's worth $1,700.

Like I mean if your engine is better than his then why not swap the motor too.

Your tranny is fine so you could use that as well.

My driveway.

I realize that there is money to be made here if I parted it out and sold it. However, my house will be LITTERED with parts for months. It's bad enough already with my racebike and parts. Plus shipping the large items would be a total headache.

But just running some quick numbers through my head, there is definitely money to be made.

Another option is to buy it, fix it, and sell it. After all, it's no different than any other TLs out there. It would be on its second transmission, fully backed by Acura for 3/36k on the transmission.

That would be a perfect opportunity to part out and make money.

I'm near D.C. , Wish I could buy it.

I saw a type-S trans on ebay new and still in the crate for less than 2k ! It was from an Acura dealer and you would have your 3/36 warranty. I say buy the damn thing and put a trans in it. Just my 2 cents............
