I need your advice!
I'm goint to purchase a new set of wheels for my TLS but I can't decide which style goes best with our car. I really like the stock rims and in my opinion the five spoke design will go best. Lower profile tires will improve handling dramatically(45's or even 40's). In my opinion 35's will make the ride too bumpy. I also think that our stock tires look too skinny when you view the car from the rear. I like the aggressive look of the 540i's tires.(235/45/WR17 front and 255/40/WR17 rear). I'm also considering going to an 18". (I know it's going to cost me extra...but is it worth it?) I've seen a couple of posts with pictures in our site and I would appreciate all of you with non stock rims and tires to voice your opinion and post some pictures so we can decide which rim/tire combo is the best for the TLS.

There are so many selections when it comes to picking out a set of wheels that you like. You do realize that there is a wheel/tire section on this site. You might be able to get some help there.
Also, consider the road conditions in your hood. If there are many pot holes (like in LA), I would think twice about going to 18" rims. Although that is what I have (check the sig), I am considering switching to 17" due to the road conditions here in LA.
BTW, I really don't think you should go for the "BMW 540" look. TL-S is FWD... having fatter wheels in the rear is not going to help you any but would look very ridiculous.

If you live by a lot of potholes then definitely stick with 17s. I got 17s because NJ has a lot of potholes and NYC is even worse.
BTW, check out my sig. My rims are 17" but they look like 18". They are riding on Falken tires 215/45/17 x 7. They ride and look great.

Those wider rims on the 540i, in theory, give the RWD a better "dig" in turns and just enhance the dry traction and handling. In theory, i suppose, you'd want bigger rims up front on the TLS, but.. ugh <I shudder w/ disgust>.. I wouldn't go bigger than 225 on the rims (7.5x18 at most) .. don't like that effect where the wheels are sticking out --> don't know how much you can affect the offset.

Well I had 18X8 all around on my TL with 225/40's and my ride wasn't bad. Ofcourse I got more road noise due to the wider tires. I wouldn't go with the 540i look cuz it buys you nothing and it will probably slow you down. Plus I do't think our TL's can go beyond 225 without doing some type of mod (ie. fender roll, etc.) My 540i has 225 in the front and 245 in the rear. Granted my 540i isn't the sports package, the wider tires in the rear helped my car out a lot regarding handling and cornering.
I personally still love the DAZZ MATIZ on the TL's. 1. cuz not many people have it, 2. they're great quality rims (that's what I heard) 3. they make the TL look very, very aggressive 4. finally, I owned a set and am still in love with those rims. I tried to get a set custom made for my 540i but DAZZ told me that they would not do it despite offering them $1000 over the list price. Bastards...

Not a Blowhole
I disagree that 40's will enhance handling dramatically - it might not improve things at all, as handling dynamics are not as simple as more tire = more handling. I would wager that an UHP 215/50 would out handle a middle of the road 225/45.
It is more a matter of looks that most of the people on this Forum are after IMO.

I dont want to appear boring here, but the 17" stock wheels on the TL-S are awesome and I question anyone changing them. I guess I just like my cars stock with a few estetic alterations, such as tinted windows, OEM spoiler, chrome tips. IMHO

I was not familiar with the DAZZ MATIZ design and after going to a couple of search engines I finally found them at www.dazzmotosports.com. I think that they're really sweet but I'm not willing to pay 5,404 CAD for them. Questions for you: i)How much did you pay for yours? ii )Are you selling them by any chance?

I have 17"x8" ATP Flash wheels w/ 225/50-17 Mich Pilot XGT-Z4s on my Dk Em Prl TL-S. I'm very happy w/ the ride -- just slightly louder but my stickier. I love the look! The front wheels stick out slightly less than "not even noticeable" and the rears are just less than flush. I am amazed by the number of people (that I don't even know) of all walks of life that stop me to compliment my wheels. You can check them out at www.tirerack.com but pictures don't do them justice. If you do order the same package I have, they my tell you they won't fit but I have had no problems. Hope this helps.
