I know,this has been over and over,but...

Guys, this is my first post here.I am shopping for a new car these days.My eyes are on a 02 Type-S,however,the transmission thing......really scares me a lot.I live in Vancouver and I am always wondering that if the same tranny recall happened in Canada or not.I just checked online this morning, dawnnnnn, same here.Should I really start to consider some other cars? I mean I like TL,like the styling, like the roomy interior, like the power, but just......I may not be able to bear the fact that it could keep failing again and again.I really need some inputs from you guys here.I would be appreicated.

Depends on warranty. Certain TLs are only covered to the 4 year/50,000. The ones listed below have extended warranty 7 year/100,000. However, there are guys who fall in the 4 year/50K slot, that have had their trannies replaced by Acura's goodwill eventhough they were out of warranty. A few thousand miles here and there and Acura will probably replace the tranny.

I'm not sure how warranties work if you're buying used whether dealer or private.

VEHICLES AFFECTED

2000-02 3.2TL: All

2003 3.2TL (except Type S):
From VIN 19UUA5…3A000001 thru 19UUA5…3A019556

2003 3.2TL Type S:
From VIN 19UUA5…3A000001 thru 19UUA5…3A019061

2001-02 3.2CL: All

2003 3.2CL (all models):
From VIN 19UYA42…3A000001 thru 19UYA42…3A005203

All in all, I went with this car because it was the best bang for the buck.

thanx for the input SK2003types,yeah,that's so true,no arguement about the bang for the buck thing on TLs.I think I might need to check with local acura dealerships to confirm that....

Here's my take on the transmission thing. It's kind of a reversal of fortune scenario: Yes, the original tranny will probably fail or function poorly over time. The good news is that the replacement trannies are much better! How many miles on the car that you're looking at? I had my tranny replaced at 71K and I wish I'd had it replaced earlier. My dealer was very good and replaced it before any kind of failure. I love the car and knew the potential tranny issues before I bought it...

thanx for the imput dug-mac,I may keep it for like 3,4 years.I commute everyday,so,for me,I would say 35k kms a year,so,I wish the tranny would last like 100k kms after I get it.hummm,day-dreaming eh? LMAO.
Yeah,I mean it's such a attractive car. I am gonna go try it out this weekend. The thing is,I actually work for Lexus. What a traiter eh?hahaha.

I recall reading that the extended warranty in Canada was better as well. (missed the Canada portion in the first post )

So you plan on purchasing from a dealer ? Definitly see what the deal is.

Yeah, cars up here are all like expensive.Due to the stupid book that we use,an 02 TL-S clean book stands for about 19k Canadian.some with lower kms and no accident would have to step up the book to 20k.Since I work in the car industry,I may be able to buy at the book price, however,it's still not gonna be so cheap compare with what states offers.
That dealership I am gonna go on the weekend is a Acura one in the same group as my Lexus one,so....should have some deals for me.

Technically, our warranty is better. Canada's 7/160,000km is equivalent to our's if it were 7/99,500 miles.
