I joined the failed trans club today =)

Went outside this morning, put the car in D and no dice. Let it sit a while and it went into gear. Called Acura and told them I was on my way. WELL I didn't make it the 8 miles. Luckily someone stopped to help me push the car up on the median. VSA, CEL, D5 flashing all that good stuff. No gears at all. Tow truck was quick. 10 mins and now I'm in an 08 TL until my baby gets fixed. It was very embarrasing to have such a nice car on the side of the road disabled like that.

I'm out of vin, and according to Acura my powertrain warranty only covers engine. My service writer and service manager said not to worry and that they will deal with Acura care and get it good willed. I've purchased 5 cars from them and have had friends buy 3 cars.

No, I was on the original trans 76,624 miles. I changed the fluid every 10-15k. Since april I've been doing a lot of highway driving so I guess it's been heating up in there melting the damn clutch packs.

Haven't heard from them yet, but they really better goodwill it. I"m like 99% sure there won't be an issue but if not my friend that works at another Acura dealership will have it towed there and he will pull some strings. I was very dissapointed with my car today. I can't believe it stranded me like that. Not even reverse. lol

you call this dropping like flies?? You should have been around in 02-04. Compared to then this is a rarity.

Yes, thats normal. The new ECUs have new shift programing to take stress off it while shifting.

Sorry about your tranny. The way I see it sh!t happens. Mine went @ 89k it was the worst time of my life being that I had only had the whip for a few months. Well only God knows when I would of found out about the ecu if it wasn't for this unfortunate event. Thank you

Thanks everyone, I miss my car, the 08 TL is nice, but it's a lil too rough for me and my car def felt quicker. lol They gave me a navi car with no disc, so I called them up so they wouldnt think I stole it. They said they take the discs out because people steal them.

Should be done by Friday. I always bragged about my original tranny doing so well and now I understand what people here meant when they said "happend out of nowhere" because my car had 0 symptoms yesterday.

It's good to know that Smithtown Acura takes care of their customers. I bought my TL-S from them and hope that they give me the same courtesy that they gave you if my tranny ever fails.

That's what I said. lol It really happens out of nowhere. I drive my car everyday for long distances. I never noticied anything wrong, then today as soon as I started the car and put it in D5 it got worse.

Yes, they are a very good dealership and work with you. I could have paid nothing but that would give me a 1/12 warranty. I'd rather be safe than sorry so I opted to pay the $500.

in recent months it was $300 for the 3/36 warranty, PLUS sometimes $500 for the labor to remove & install the trans, so 500 for both you cant complain to loudly if ~out of vin~ car

I thought freeway cruising was the least wear?- once its past 2nd-3rd gears accellerating/load and just running, there is no load on the problem clutches--
kris is that correct?

For others who may become suddenly stranded with trans problem- acura suggest try turning the engine and key OFF for 15-30 minutes and then restart.
Sometimes that will restore the system temporarily or at least get you into Limp mode with limited rpm to get to a safer place to park and wait for the tow truck

Tom, I was really happy that they only asked for $500. I thought they were going to offer to pay HALF. And honestly I can't take the risk of this happening again and not being under warranty. I"m sure 3 years will be enough time if something will happen.

As far as my freeway cruising, usually coming home there is a bit of traffic at the end so it's a lot of stop/go. I really don't know if the freeway driving caused it, time, stop/go or what not I'm just glad I wasnt 90 miles away from home when this happened.

I tried the shutoff/restart method. But only for 5 minutes because I was in a realllly bad spot, I wanted to get off the road A.S.A.P The lights would go off on the dash until I put the car in D5 then they went on again and no movement. I have heard of others and witnessed the shutoff/restart method where it works so yes others should try that if it happens to them. I think this was more than just the 3rd gear clutch pack because NONE of the grears worked at all. Gate shift/sport shift or reverse.

Tom and Kris, thank you for all your previous advice and info in the past. It helped me deal with this issue at the time it happened, and talking with the dealership. I rememberd what Tom said about going to the Service MANAGER when I walked in.

I just picked mine up today after a new tranny install, and YES, they did give me a new ECU. They picked up 75% of the total cost (I paid around $700) and I got the 3/36
Good Luck!

When my trans. was replaced, they replaced the ECU and the fuel pressure regulator. I'm not sure why they changed the pressure regulator but whatever, as long as it was fixed, I was happy.

No, I did not notice ANY problems the day before AT ALL. After warming up for 2 minutes and put into D5 is when the problem first started. It wouldn't move. I had to give it gas. Then the 8 mile trip destroyed it totally leaving me stranded 1/4 before the dealer requiring a tow.

They called Tuesday afternoon telling me it would be good willed and if I paid the $500 I would get the 3/36 and I agreed. I thought it would have been done today but so far I have not received a phone call. I'm hoping it will be done by at least tomorrow.

$500? Wow! That's a great offer! Hope all goes well!

I had my tranny replaced in Sept. and they didn't even mention anything about the ECU?

Hey

What's the deal with this tranny crap?

Like.. my 03-S got a rebuilt tranny around 70k and now I'm coming up on 100k.

Am I gonna have the tranny crap out on me pretty soon here? Leaving me to pay a couple thousand dollars to fix it??

Why are you guys going through multiple trannys???

This irritates me...

I don't plan on holding it that long, so I SHOULD be okay.. I plan on getting a 3rd generation TL so I think the tranny is a little more resolved in that.
