Post I hate to admit it...

OK,so I have a '99. At first I hated the new headlights. Now I cannot get enough of them. At first I hated the HUGE grille, but now it isn't so bad. Must resist....must fight the urge to trade...must....mu....AAAARRGGGHHH!

If I had the cash, i would be there right now signing the dotted line. I now envy you guys.

Run & hide. Don't hang out here. My 2000 TL turned into a TL-S and these guys are to blame

What a great ride. The break-in period takes too long though...I want to put the pedal down a little.

TLWIZ,

I agree completely. 99TL ownder here too and I like the new 2002 Type S look. I think those that originally did not like it were just fuming that there was a TYPE S out there and they did not have one.

I hate to admit it, but my 99TL is looking old. Why put on new rims to just prolong the agony of not having a Type S? Why spend more and more money on my 99TL, when you can use & save that money to buy a new Type S or better car in about 1-2 years. It's time to trade up!

Come on, '99 TL is a very nice car.
I still have the 99TL screen saver on my PC.
If you change your car every 4 to 5 years, you can probably wait for the major redesign in a year or 2. I have a feeling that Acura would have to beef up TL in a year or 2 to keep up with the competition.

I actually still love my '99. I am also getting rims for it, plus installing the kit which is waiting in my garage. When my lease is up, I am going to consider the new RL or Q45 perhaps. I want and need a bigger ride, with more luxury than sport.
However, if my car got wrecked, I would get a new TL right now. I keep driving by the dealership and rubber-necking!

I understand that to be financially economical, you really should not trade in a car before 4 or 5 years (at least)... but i think the hardest thing for pre-'02 TL-P owners is that Acura had to go and drop the Type S engine into the TL -- it's not like they just redesigned it and gave it a better stereo or better interior ammenities... they had to go cut the acceleration by a second and make it handle much better stock. I understand how that can piss TL owners off big-time-- especially the '01 owners!!!

I think the same thing is going to happen when the redesigned TL debuts in 2002 or 2003. In just a few short years our 2002 TL's are going to probably look outdated. Remember, the 2002 was only refreshened. That's why I leased mine. When my lease is up in a few years I can trade it in for the redesigned tl.

If you just wait about 1 year, you will have a great selection of cars to choose from. The 2002 Model year is filled with many changes and great cars. I am eager to see what the new Lexus ES300 will look like. Revamped and more aggressive.

Save up now my friends and get a new car soon. Cars will be outdated always, but our 99TLs are on the brink of being outdated! No 5 Speed SS, No Side Airbags, that sucks!

Otherwise, happy TL owner here for now :-)

Lexus dealers can't give away the ES300. Nobody wants to pay that much for a boring car when there are lots better cars cheaper. Lexus better come up with a radical change or that car is history. Remember the Infiniti J30? I don't either!

Lonny, very good point.

I think the new ES300 will look lightyears different than the '01 model, but in terms of power and "aggressiveness" .. it ain't nuthin but the same camry under lexus clothes. Don't look for more than ten or fifteen more horses. They don't need the ES300 to be a sports sedan -- that's what the IS300 is for, and the GS lineup. There is no in-between those two classes.

Question

Maybe Lexus should just eliminate the ES. Do they really need it? The GS300 is much better for not a whole lot more money!

they are both nice cars.
If you are type of person that like to drive new cars, then you should lease the car..

I personally will save up and get a roadster or a SUV like escalade or or something

The 2 other cars I considered before buying my TLS were the ES 300 and the A4 2.8 (2 very different cars . After the test drive I asked the salesman (saleswoman actually :-) to give me the scoop on the new ES 300. What she had to say was this : the 02 ES 300 will remain a front wheel drive but the suspension may be firmed up a little, the transmission will be upgraded from 4 speed to 5 speed, the engine for the most part will stay the same with a few tweaks here and there (no inline 6), The Mark Levinson system will be made avaialble as an option(anyone here listened to Levinson home audio gear btw?? Consider yourself warned ... a set of monoblock amplifiers costs more that your TLS does but great equipment your CDs will never sound the same) & the exterior will be completely redesigned to have rounder curves all around. Her advice was to wait, well whaddya know salesmen are actually beginnig to develop a conscience these days

I was very tempted to buy a black coach, they were being dumped (are being dumped) in the market for the same price as a TLS w/o nav. After 3 rounds of test drives the ES 300 just didn't do it for me. Uncomfortable cornering, slippery seats when taking sharp turns, nose plough, the steering wheel didn't connect .... and most importantly the POWER WASN'T THERE when I needed it. After driving the TLS for a month now I've started taking its power & smoothness for granted, all you need to do is take a car like an ES 300 for a sping to realize what a great engine & transmission the TLS has.
