I can't decide...coilovers
I can't decide...coilovers
I'm in discussions with Tanabe for a R&D deal to get their Pro-Street SS coilovers at a huge discount...click here for a description. They're top shelf coilovers that list for over $1500.00 and even the shocks are adjustable for dampening.
My dilemma is this...I was planning on getting the A'PEXi World Sport coilovers and the cost to me is right at the end of my creative budget but these Tanabe's rock for a couple hundred more than my already extended budget for the A'PEXi's...
What would you do? I'm also asking those who already have the A'PEXi coilovers...your personal evaluation of the A'PEXi's would help...
thanks

Let's see if I can describe it for you. I have the Apexi Coilovers on my TL right now since the end of March '01. I have a 3" drop and the ride quality is surprisingly stock-like. I was expecting a real harsh ride but to my amazement, it was really good. I even took a friend of mine on this board (bdimc2001 - Joey) on a ride to see how it feels. He was also shocked to feel how good it was. I guess he can describe it further for you later when he reads this post. But the handling is increased 100%. I can really take corners much faster than before without worrying about tipping over. You have to remember that every time you drop a car, you will feel the bumps more (either with springs/shocks or coilovers). It is a fair trade-off for better handling. To me the ride quality is pretty much the same like I said before. I really don't know how good the Tanabe coilovers are because I have never ridden in one before. Maybe someone that has it on can also give you his/her side of the story. Either way I guess you can't go wrong with Apexi/Tanabe since they are both adjustable.
BTW, $1500 for coilovers is kind of steep (not counting installation $$$).
I got the Apexi Coilovers and installation for $950 (got a hook-up). But it seems like you don't have that much to spend so I really suggest you going with the Apexi. I don't know how much better the Tanabe is but it is close to $800 extra (including installation) and it does the same thing as the Apexi.
Good luck and let us know what you decide on.

hmmm...thanks.
but the dilemma comes from the fact that i can get these Tanabes for $940. The A'PEXi i can get for $780 including install. I'm already extending myself to get the A'PEXi but think of it this way and this why its killing me...I'm getting $1500 coilovers for $940 vs. getting $900 coilovers for about $780.
Another thing is that the A'PEXi coilovers are only height adjustable with a tuned shock and as apexi advertises they're just a setup of how the car should've come from the factory. The Tanabes are height AND shock dampening adjustable...top shelf stuff comparable to a race setup.
i guess the plastic fantastic is gonna get hot soon...

those are the ride (and height) adjustables right? if that is the case then for sure i would buy them for that little bit more. i don't think you can compare the two since the apexi's aren't ride adjustable. however, the amount of threads on the tanabes lead me to think they might not lower enough for those that want a slammed ride.
