Exclamation HUGEEEEEEEEEE Problem with TL

today i was dropping off my sisters at school, i came home from dropping off one and i put the car in park. when i tried to put it into reverse, the shift wouldnt move past park. its just like the car is off or when you dont put ur foot on the brake. i had to manually release the shifter to get the car in gear. the TCS, ABS, Check Engine and Maintanence lights are all on. any clue as to what is happening!? its the weirdest thing i have ever experienced

when i followed the brake and pressed on it, i felt this little black button come out. i messed with that for a few minutes but nothing still.

i decided to see what would happen when i remote started the car. usually when u press the brake the car turns off but now when i press the brake nothing happens. any other thoughts?!

ok so i played with that little button some more and i pulled on it a little and it came out. i lubed it with a little oil and it seems to work now. im thinking this oil trick wont last long, is there any ideas as to what caused this problem? anything i can do to make it more permanent?!

Replace the little button = switch and you will be safe & sur !!
But I would check it first why it got stuck ( rust , wear-out or lubrification )
and try to fix it .Otherwise just change it .Good luck

agreed. My Lexus used to have this problem for about a week, until I got smart enough and checked the fuses. First clue was that the fans wouldn't come on, and it would overheat at idle. Took it to dealership after that, and he even said it had to do with the brakes, ignition, even a/c. All from that fuse. Failsafe by putting it in park I guess...

mechanic says that my CEL has no code history and nothing is coming up. the TCS and ABS lights are up because there is no power going to the computer that monitors those systems. he says there is somethin def wrong with ABS but he cant figure it out cus no codes come back since there is no power. he thinks it would be a faulty computer or just a wire loose somewhere. he also recommended taking it to a dealer cus its not a clear cut problem. any thoughts?!

Try to reset the ECU of the car by removing the negative cable of the battery
for 1 min. ( car need to be cold = not warming up) and see if your will start
normally now.
Remember to have the Radio code to enter after removing the battery otherwise
you will not be able to use your radio.
good luck

i usually go to plaza auto mall.....wich i dont go to anymore and i dont recomend, i hate em. even if u make an appointment and u bring ur car in at 8am the never get around to look at it till the next day and ur stuck without a car for 2 days (IT HAPPENED TO ME A FEW TIMES)
i take my car to a mechanic right down the block from me...but in your case u said it was a dealer problem. id say give it a shot and try a mechanic.

UPDATE:

honda just called.

the abs is from a failed rear wheel sensor cost 200 bucks not bad.

the tcs and check engine COULD be attributed to a dead PCM. cost 1000 for parts 1350 total.

he also told me that this may not even solve the problem but the codes SEEM to show this. if he orders the parts and puts them in, and it dont solve the problem im shit outta luck.

he also told me to call acura and ask if there was a recall on the PCM for my car. the tech said it MAY BE a possibility but doubtful. any thoughts?!

what would you guys do?! the problem doesnt make the car drive weird or anything and to tell you the truth i dont even know what a dead PCM would control if it were actually working. its been "dead" for so long that even if it were working i wouldnt know the difference. should i just leave it alone?

just got the car back. abs and tcs was fixed. CEL needs a new PCM and fuel pressure regulator $1350.00. my local mechanic tried looking for the parts himself but they are dealer only and he says the PCM would need to be flashed before he could put it in the car.

i did a search and it seems like the PCM and Fuel Pressure Regulator were being replaced for free in 2004, i wonder if its still happening.

FWIW the PCM in my car was replaced free, but it was done at the same time as the transmission. This was back in October.

yea i called around and spoke to 5 dealers they all told me that the pcm is not under extended warrenty. which dealer did u take it to? maybe i can tell them that your dealer did it, see what they say.

does anybody have a part number on the pcm? i think i found it on www.acuraautomotiveparts.org for 599 but im not sure if thats it.

Mine was replaced at Ed Voyles Acura. But now that you mention it, my car was still under factory warranty at the time.
