HP Increase - Comptech Incebox & cat back exhaust

When I first joined this board, I asked about the "real horsepower" increase that aftermarket add-ons were worth. I got no feedback.

The October issue of "Honda Tuning" dynoed a 03 Type "S" that had a Comptech Icebox & cat back exhaust installed. Stock hp is 260 and torque is 230 ft. lbs. On the dyno, the stock engine produced 18 ft. lbs. of torque.

With the Comptech equipment, the increase was 8.6 hp and 12 ft. lbs. The intake did little to improve power - adding only 1 or 2 hp with the exhaust accounting for most of the increase. The torque curve remained about the same but dropped off a bit sooner with the aftermarket equipment.

Final numbers: 210.6 hp (at rear wheels) and 194 ft. lbs. of torque.

Imho - $1000 is alot to spend for this slight increase.

Let the debate begin...

The ECU was not altered (they may do this in a future issue).

how can you have 210 HP in the rear wheels with a FWD car? That doesn't make sense...what was the HP at the front wheels up to?

Dang, this really makes me think twice about dropping $ on mods for the TLS. That comes as a bit of disappointment. But don't those bolt-ons work best with forced induction anyway?

True and funny, but we get the point. I just don't see why some of you guys are stuck on the notion that an exhaust is really going to increase your power. It is the least bang for the buck of any mod out there. period. As far as the Icebox goes, something doesn't sound right if we are talking only 1 or 2 hp gain...

I'm sure he meant that the dyno was done at the front wheel but everybody refers to as "at the rear wheels"
This is why I'm saving my money for the SC, tranny cooler and of course the necessary brake upgrade and tires. I'm not in a hurry.

yah even I know about the exhaust. The only thing I like about the Comptech exhaust is the look of the exhaust tips, but any person who knows a tad about cars know the exhaust tips can be replaced for like 50 bux. May as well save yourself the 450 bux, and put it somewhere else where it will give you ample amount of more power.

I have stainless dual exhuast, CT headers and I just added the Icebox... The icebox did make a difference it is more apt to spin the tires off the line and more responsive. In part the icebox will give you more oxygen per square foot at warmer temps due to it not pulling air from the engine compartment so you get that cold morning air punch at warmer temps. The other part is that it is a free'er flowing filter, less restriction than stock so it breathes better which is what I think leads to the increased responsiveness.
