How to use Sport Shift?
My transmission has been slipping a lot recently in automatic. I usually drive in D5 but I’ve been putting it in D4 and the transmission still slips. I’ve been trying to teach myself how to drive in sport shift, in hopes that the transmission won’t slip. I’ve never driven a manual before so I’m just curious as to what RPM do you up shift gears at? I’ve been shifting at 2000 RPM but I’d that too early? Also, do I have to manually downshift or will it downshift automatically?
Glad someone said it.
Kylie, I too tried my best to get around slipping gears on my transmission, very light acceleration and shifting into the next gear as early as possible, but if you shift too low: too much torque going through the clutch/gears which leads to slipping. Once you get up to a certain speed with the proper gear engaged the engine needs to exert more force (transmitted through the transmission and possibly breaking loose it's clutches) to keep the car moving, so things start to slip there as well (which is where I and most people feel gears slipping down when they are going at a highway speed; then the car shifts down to the lowest possible gear it can hold onto (which is typically 2nd).

Before you drop money on replacing the transmission, try the 3x3 fluid replacement process, switching out the 3rd and 4th pressure switches, and cleaning out the solenoid screens. This basically restored my transmission which was really bad. It’s been running strong and like brand new for months now.
